Got my set a few months ago and they are a revelation. Mucked about long enough thinking I didn't need them and persevered with the ways I always used. To avoid trying keep a narrow piece of scribe material straight i use say a 100mm piece that i know is straight and have it sitting on the inside of the unit, so long as I use a 100mm scribing block, the only issue is the tails of the jigs get in the way but the result is the same. Fine run of videos from you.
@thetallcarpenter2 жыл бұрын
Hi John. I get exactly what you're saying. If the carcass gable bows out, I'll just pack it straight from the wall, and if it bows, I'll usually fit a shelf in the middle of the unit to push it straight👊 Thanks for watching and your comment 😎 Cheers Del

Del, I have this kit. Not sure if you know this….. if you have say a 120 panel but need to cut it for a 60mm end filler. You don’t need to cut it down first. You can fit the jigs to the back of the panel and clip it on the edge with the panel on the inside. You then get an off cut of the 120mm and use that to scribe your wall. The only slight flaw with this method is when you come to the jig positions, you have to miss them out but it works really well and you only have one cut rather than 2. I also find using the track saw on a slight back cut gets a great finish and allows a neat finish . Sorry if you already knew this method.
@thetallcarpenter2 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul. I get exactly what you mean. You're basically using the jig to hold the panel in place, and then cutting a scribe block the right width to mark it. I will a definitely apply it on the next kitchens on this site👊 I'm still finding my feet with my track saw, so may well give it a go on scribes🤩Thanks for your tip and for putting down in the comments for others to see👍Cheers Del
@paulyoull54722 жыл бұрын
@@thetallcarpenter yes Del , for an end filler you would clip the uncut panel onto the carcass ( like a door) so you can still see the full filler gap. Then using the scribe block cut from the waste end ( if the panel is 120 wide, the scribe block is 120) scribe the panel and cut. Enjoy!!!!!

Hi Del.....I noticed you fixed your filler so that the base was in line with the underside of the carcass, hence why you had difficulty with the top edges, having to cut them beforehand. If you had set your filler so that the top of it was level with the top of the unit, you wouldn't have had that issue. You would have then used an off-cut from the filler, the same size, to scribe along the ceiling. I know this video is a year old, so maybe you have already noticed this. U-Scribe have their own page on KZbin, watch it, you'll see what I mean :)

Great little gadget. The only problem I have with this solution is, that now the wonky ceiling (or wall) line is transferred and emphasized in the trim. Personally I can never unsee the wave... For a perfect finish even out the ceiling/wall, even if it just for that general area, so the trim can be dead on straight. I do realize that there are very few walls or ceilings that aren't cattywompus in some way or other ;) It's almost as if screeds and darby's are esoteric ancient artefacts whose usage has been lost to time...

Brilliant explanation, I guess you could apply the same to the kick boards only upside down. Have you used them to scribe a pannel that's flush with the underside of the top of the carcass. I'd love a video on that

Great little simple tool, but when you have a base unit door, if you make them exactly flush on the unit they will sit back a couple of mill, because the doors have a couple mill gap from the unit!! so do i have to bring them out level with the door and allow a small piece of the backing fillet to show? ( mine is on the hinge side so it wont be seen i think).....is that correct?

Hi Derek nice video to showcase this great little invention, I saw these a couple of years ago on 10 minute workshop by Peter Millard and promptly bought some. This may seem like a silly question but how did you fix the secondary piece and right angle to the scribe to allow it to protrude 22mm to be flush with the doors? keep up the good work

Hi Kevin. I do a feel like a right plank for not discovering these great jigs ages ago, as they are really cool👊 I rip down a carrier strip on the table saw at 35mm and screw it to the back, bottom edge of the filler panel and with 4x50 screws👍I think I'm going to do a little video on it, as its quite a cute little detail😎Great comment, and thanks for watching🤩(I'm going to watch Peter Millard videos now to see what other cool marking aids I'm missing out on🤗) Cheers Del

If there’s a tool or gadget that you can use regularly to help improve the quality of your work it’s well worth it.
