Any advice on cutting finger joints on the ends of long thin pieces?

these are only straing cuts. What if I need to cut out round, oval or any other different shapes in the plywood? What tools are needed for this job? As I know there are only large table machine tool can do this.

I'd be interested to see plywood cut with a hand saw, Alan. Just for those of us on a really tight budget.😀

Does that Makita circular saw really cut down from the top?! I've never seen a handheld circular saw do that - they always rotate anti-clockwise as you look at the blade securing bolt. Would be very curious to know how they handle if they're backwards as it sounds like they'd be trying to lift themselves off the surface they're cutting that way around.

Might have got the clockwise/anticlockwise backwards but you know what I mean - they always cut from the bottom up through the material to the plate of the saw.

Thanks for the informative breakdown on plywood cutting! Could you tell us the name and model of the small red battery operated saw? I love the fact that is is compact, not too expensive and easy to use.

Great advice thanks Alan. I've had a terrible time with tear-out, so I'm keen to try some of the systems you have illustrated. Will the use of more saw teeth and masking tape apply to melamine? I'm trying to neaten up my cupboard making.
