Cutting porcelain paving tiles is not difficult, it just requires a little practice and patience. Mark Brown, Pavestone's resident expert landscaper, guides you through how to make perfect straight, curved or intricate cuts and how to avoid breaking the paving tile or having chipped untidy edges in the process.

What I did to keep the blade cool . I ran an air compressor to blow cold air on the blade and keep the dust off my lines. Not brilliant but it does help save the slab and blade. When cutting out for man holes ect . I cut best I can from the top and then turn the slab over to finish the cut . Save alot of cleaning up of the cuts .

How do you avoid chipping the surface when cutting 20mm porcelain? I’m using a nine inch Makita angle grinder so it’s not a wet cut and although it’s cutting through ok, the edge is chipping in places. How do I avoid this?

Hi, you can apply a piece of tape, mark your line over the tape and it should be a fairly clean edge, you can also get your helper to hold a water bottle with a hole on the cap and have them run the water on the blade and tile for a very clean edge, if all that fails I would just grab a smaller grinder with a Diamond wheel and carefully run it over the edge so it can hide those chips

Mate I had the exact same issue. Makita angle grinder on 20mm tile and still leaving chip marks

My Husky paddy with porcelain blade does the same. They’re black slabs so I mask up with 3” duck tape so I can see my marks. Even with water it still chips. I then used a wet tile disc cutter. Still chips. I wonder if it’s the slabs

Dare I suggest an air powered angle grinder, as you could then run coolin water over the job?

Hi, there are so many different blades on the market. For me personally I use the Abracs range of blades or Pulvex. Both company's can be found online. Remember to keep the blade dressed. This means cleaning all the slurry that settles in the diamonds on the blade. You may think you need a new blade when really it just needs a clean. Mark.

Sorry using a stihl saw will not give you a nice straight clean cut. To much vibration wet cutter or 4-5" grinder with a proper thin cutting disc and get someone to lightly spray it with water and then sanding disc to buff the edge
