He is a good instructor! They don’t teach beauty school students how to do many different styles of haircuts, just the basics. I had only done 3 cuts on my mannequin before I was put out on the floor to service customers. How stylists become good ones is through continuing education and watching other stylists techniques if your not busy.

Интересная работа ,использую часть из такой техники ,когда надо сохранить длинные волосы и сделать по низу лесенку ,вот спереди стригу так как в конце ,главная прядь посредине (челка) и тогда по линии лица. Соединяю по кругу. Сверху спереди беру не все боковые части (тк.там мало волос ,весочные части головы). Понравилось, можно использовать такую технику на среднию и длинную длину волос! Спасибо большое за информацию!😀👍

This is the technique we used back in the day to create the "Rachel" cut! Depending if we wanted a really defined "scoop" in the back/bottom, a lot of times we over-directed and then brought the section back down to 90 degrees to create a more carved look that encouraged the ends to flip out. Sometimes I even went in with a razor comb to carve it out even more if people wanted the defined bob on top with more of a shaggy bottom - similar to the "chop" haircut made famous by the girls on 90210 around that same time period.

I’d stand by her station handing her curlers, perm rods and sweep her floor along with some of the other stylists station. To this day perm solution is a bit nostalgic and it cleans your rings well! 😆

Beautiful thanks . Please a little help. Because when you cut the right side you take the cut made in the center as a guide, while you cut at 0 degree on the left side and the lower neck cut as a guide. I am still a court student and I would like to learn. Greetings from Italy.😀

Hi Elizabeth, thank you for your comment and question. On both front sides i cut the hair at 90°. When the hair is directed straight up or directed straight out (like the back) it's 90°. 0° would be a solid line (not used in layering). Sorry for the confusion with the two sides. The reason why i cut another guide on the opposite side, was to show people how make mistakes, people who get gaps of holes in their haircuts that taking this guide on the side can also help to stop that from happening. I still directed the guide from the top as my main guide. I hope that helped answer your question, always feel free to ask questions. James

I'm watching from Alamo, Indiana, USA. not a proffessional...I've always preffered to cut my own hair. many moons before the covid crisis. I used to cut our sons hair for him sometimes now he goes for short. I have long layers my husband's mom does his hair and is teaching me. our daughter is not yet 2 so she hasn't got a haircut yet:) I want to be able to cut hers for her and our sons if they want in the future tho. I have a few friends that are hairstylists...it's absolutely an art form I highly value your work and I am grateful you have shared your work thank you!

I used to get my hair cut by hair Barber shop but this gentleman used to travel to learn new style methods of the 1970s the method he performed was called the box cut which is very similar to the square cut you do

Would you do anything different in this cut or any layered cut for someone who has thinner hair on the sides around their face/ear sections or where one side is much thinner than the opposite? Watching from Texas and I love your channel

Hey Caren, thanks for your question. For clients with thinner hair around the face and ear area, i would disconnect those problematic areas, to allow them to grow. I would educate my client that we will be working towards growing these sections out to eventually be cut as a solid line (which will create strength in the shape and also protect the hair from breaking). i would simply connect the layers to this area when it is long enough, with cutting the outline. when you have one side of the head that is finer than the other, you could play around with changing the parting and see if that helps balance the shape. Or on the side that is thicker you could reduce more weight with point cutting or slicing. A lot of haircuts arn't 100% symmetrical. Id educate the client about the situation, and suggest the best look to accomodate. I hope these suggestions help Caren. I really appreciate your feedback and stoked you like my channel, i really appreciate it. Cant wait to re visit the great state of Texas. I've been to Dallas and Austin, looking forward to visiting Houston.

Never had heard of a square layer cut. I love it. I wonder how it looks on curly hair. Also is there a way I can do this myself?

Hey Dee, welcome to my channel. Square layers are incredible for curly hair. I cut almost all curls with a square shape. Not sure how you could attempt this yourself, some people are super clever and can achieve anything. As long as your cutting angle and your elevation is right you could give it a go. I personally wouldn’t recommend it. Let me know how you go

@@HairByJamesAnnabel I just have been having bad luck finding someone who can cut layers and not give me the flat back of the head. I’ve gone to so many hair dressers and I’ve been so unhappy. I mean it looks fine, and make it work, but it’s not what I want. I loved this look because it will definitely give my hair the fullness due to my low density and a different/looser curl pattern on the back of my head.

Im passing along advice that helped me. Just stop by salons and look to see who has your hair type and if you like their hair get it done by the stylist that does their hair. Also look to see if they have portfolios or a page on social media.

I love this haircut. I would have to have bangs though because that's what I have now. Plus I wouldn't want all that hair in my face. I love all the styles. I thought I liked the beachy waves the best but then I saw the next one. Each one was like that. I don't think I can chose a favorite. I'd wear them all. Thanks for a great tutorial.
