I have only had 2 professional stylists who could actually cut layers properly. Having a license doesn’t necessarily mean they can cut hair so thank you for sharing this information. I get so tired of spending a LOT of money on crappy haircuts & ending up having to fix it at home.
@ooohlaa133 жыл бұрын
oh this is so true which is why I am now doing my own grey roots and my own haircuts. Luckily we live in a very forgiving "Anything Goes" era, where people deliberately cut asymmetry and shaggy, etc. I have almost never had anyone cut my neck hair the way I wanted so this is why I finally decided. Layers I am really scared of so I am going about that a few at a time. Also I cut my hair every few days here and there to make it better and better. Olaplex system really helps to keep my lavender grey hair looking healthy and I am always surprised to get compliments all the time from all kinds of surprising varieties of people.

Truly, the license is 90% about not spreading infectious disease among humans. There is a practical method segment to it but it’s really outdated (speaking to MA state.) it’s mainly for the purposes of determining motor functions. The only way to know the modernness of hairdresser technique other than trial is to know where they had formal training. Not all schools are created equal.

Since I have a ton of hair (literally every hairdresser has said, "I had no idea you had so much hair ") mistakes are par for the course. I'm a jewelry maker, and pretty dexterous, so I really can't do worse than that one lady at supercuts who left me looking butch when I showed her a picture of Jennifer Aniston's hair and said "Do that". @Maddie S - I found Steven's channel in Fall 2018, after ANOTHER horrible haircut... I have also a lot of wavy, heavy hair. I need a symmetric layered cut, otherwise it is never looking good. I am now 4 1/2 years in to cutting my own hair after Steven's various videos and instructions about (symmetric) layered haircuts. Sometimes pretty short, sometimes a bit longer, and I can proudly say that I have never gotten so many compliments from women AND men about my "absolutely gorgeous" haircut/s. And questions who cuts my hair, they want to go there too. LOL. I am using my big camera tripod, where I clamp a mirror on. I look into it, and I see the back of my head in the big bathroom mirror. Have some clips and a good haircutting scissors. Takes me between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on how long I did not cut, on average I cut every 2 months. And once in a while I watch again some of my fave Steven's videos which taught me so much.

@@streetofdreams4538 what's gonna happen is you will probably end up with very marked layers that may make your hair appear thicker on top than the bottom, it may puff up adding a lot of volume to your head. It also depends on your hair texture. If you're hair is wavy to curly, you will probably end up with an 80s shag. If it is straight, the cut will probably be more noticable if there are uneven parts, you will look like a chopped Barbie doll.

They keep getting worse and worse. Part of the reason is they have to now wash the chairs because of COVID after each person. You must pay for every single thing that is used on your hair or anything to do with you So cleaning the chair and all detergents and lotions or styling gels etc you will be charged heavily. People who are capable of wearing a straight cut along the bottom of their hair ( especially is long) will just do it at home. They will not need to frame their face or try to layer. So it is easy to let it just hang straight and cut. Some can wear that style very nicely, some cannot. Those who can are very lucky with prices high and COVID etc. They have now learned to do it for themselves and others and save money I guess?

She lives 4 hours away and I get a little impatient in between visits and this time with your directions I believe she won't be quite as upset. My hair looks good and I personally enjoy your jokes. I am going to refer her to your site as a professional there are always this vs we can learn from our peers. Again, thank you.

Oh my word! This is my best hair cut ever! I’m older with thin salt and pepper hair and it’s slightly curly. I tend to hate how other people cut it. Following you I’ve gotten a perfect hair cut. Thanks!

Thank You! I especially appreciated how you separated the hair into sections and explained why it needed to be done that way. Sometimes people tell us 'what' to do but without the "why". Knowing that helps me want to take the time to do it as explained so it actually comes out correctly. Realizing the angle of the scissors makes such a difference was also VERY helpful. Now, I need to watch your videos about blow drying hair. Nicely done!

Phenomenal job cutting and teaching! Great haircut! Been cutting my own hair in layers for years to save money and time. I just pull it in a ponytail and cut straight across with zigzag scissors and voila. Your technique will help jazz up my haircut for special occasions. I will have to take more time, but it will be worth it! Thank you!

I had my hair cut by a professional three times in the past 10-plus years. Two of those times my daughter in law cut it. I appreciate your video because it explains how to cut it yourself. I have always watched stylists showing different types of hair styles on KZbin. I just cut it yesterday and can't wait for it to grow so I can apply the tips and suggestions you showed in the video. I have gotten pretty good at cutting my hair and I dye it now too. I started changing the color every once in awhile and now I streak it in blue, aqua, purple and violet. I get a lot of compliments on it. I am now subscribed to your page and look forward to hearing more. Thanks for this awesome video. 😊❤

This video is great. I've watched a couple this week as I prepare to cut my fiance's hair but this is easily the best because you show the entire cut step by step. I know it's a stopgap until we can get back to a salon eventually but I appreciate the guide. She has already cut my hair three times already since March. Hopefully I won't screw hers up too much.

Great tutorial going to try it out. Since $ does not go as far as it did several years ago, additional funds for a stylist are almost last in the list. I love my layered hair but after 15 months, it's more of a shaggy dog than a style. This video gives me hope! Thank you.

Using this tutorial for the second time and honestly the best tutorial I've watched. I've honestly watched hours and hours and none have made it so simple! Loved the result far more than any paid cut I've ever had, kinda ticked I wasn't given this all the times I asked for it and didn't receive it lol. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Love your down-to-earth approach that doesn't make us feel like cutting our hair at home is utterly ridiculous and that we will never manage a satisfactory result! I added your sweep bang tutorial to this one and just simply love it...I won't be changing anything for quite some time!

Great tutorial. This tutorial made my hair look really nice. The front is blended nicely. Easy face frame helps to blend the hair around the ear with the front and back hair. I learned three new things. How to even the front face frame. how blow drying to the front compliments this cut. And the face frame cut helps to blend the front hair with the back. I used your technique in 10 sections. My right and left side had a top front, bottom front, back top, bottom top, and then the whole section above the ears. My hair was already straight expect for my bangs so i started with the layers then the face frame.

Yes, do my own hair. Had a hair cut and color in the fall $270 CAD and now in March $230 CAD. I can't do this every few months and I honestly (Aspergers - Very much dislike the Salon experience, the brushing and blow drying hurts, find the shampooing very uncomfortable and concerned about soap in the face and eyes) So this is great I can follow directions. Thank you thank you thank you.) I love your videos. I bought pro scissors.

Great demo! I used to be a hair stylist and this is exactly how I would cut this style. My own hair is also this style, and I gotta tell you ladies, even as a stylist, its not an easy thing to cut your own hair. Its difficult to get at it!! Rather like painting your own nails, one side is always easier than the other.😂Worth giving it a go though, its very well explained.

Thank you for posting this in such detail! I have thin, coarse hair (to my waist in back) and may let my daughter attempt a long multi-layered cut from long bang legnth in front to longer back. I wondered about the vertical scissor cutting and appreciate a seasoned professional's opinion/tip. I will share this with her. Talk about disasters...I've had so many at the hairdressers. I'd love to know what your philosophy is on thinning thick hair. So many hairdressers have been too scissor-happy and ended up chopping into my hair so much with thinning scissors, leaving unsightly gaps and unintentional shorter sections. Traumatising..

This is why I actually started cutting my own hair, I felt like I couldn't trust people, it was one too many hack jobs or getting overly excited with the thinning shears. Just that word makes me cringe now - Even with photos they would always do something to change it to what they thought looked better. I'm sorry, I'm not paying that much money to walk around feeling badly and self conscious about my looks for the next 2-3mths
