It will help to cut someone else’s hair but, I guess it is impossible to give yourself a good haircut. I have been cutting my own hair for years since my stylist moved to another state. I have very fine hair so I just bring it all in front, cut it, then have someone check the back which usually needs another cut to even it out. I will definitely use this guide when cutting my godmothers hair. Thanks!

My husband is the family barber and stylist and he has been cutting my hair for years. He does the full sectioning using a rat tail comb just behind my ears, and he pins my long hair up with alligator hair clips. His process is pretty much the same as yours, except that I have him cut my hair dry, so he can see the split ends. My hair is very thick, so he takes small increments so he can see the guide of the hair previously cut. He does an excellent job every time. My best friend complimented me on how nice my hair looked and asked where I had my hair done as she had gotten a string of bad haircuts at the salon. She came over and watched, and asked why he didn’t just put my hair in a ponytail and cut it all at once. He explained that if you try to cut through too much hair at once, the blades push the hair before it cuts leaving an uneven mess. She had been considering putting her hair in ponytails and cutting them. She thanked him for explaining why that was a bad idea. Well when he finished with my hair, she said, “I’m next,” he said yes you are. He trimmed an inch off her mid back length hair as she asked. She thanked him and asked if he could continue to cut her hair for her. He said he could if she promised not to put her hair in ponytails and hack it. I have a couple other friends of mine that have asked him to cut their hair on occasion.

I appreciate you and other creators who teach us how to cut hair at home. I don't live in a spot that is convenient to highly rated hairdressers, lol. Your explanations are enlightening! The problems with over or under-direction are not obvious to everyone, and I think that is what really messes up the style. During lockdown I found a "wolf hair" tutorial on the channel, The Life of Hair that works for me every time. It is an adapted Vidal Sassoon technique for a graduated layered shag. This is the same shape as the wolf cut that a lot of people are doing using the unicorn ponytail. You will be happy to know that the hairdresser for that channel stresses getting the initial sectioning right. For me, the sectioning took longer than the cutting. There are no ponytails! He cuts a front section then uses that as the reference for the whole head, directing the hair to the front. When you are done, you don't have to go in and reshape the front or do any point cutting on the layers.

I cut my own hair for years using several mirrors which allowed me to see what I was doing in the back and sides. Now that I am older, my vision is not what it used to be 🙊😂, so I have long hair and get it trimmed occasionally.

I hate to cut my hair at the hair salon as most of the hair dressers could not cut my hair according to the pictures I showed them. So I used to cut my own hair by using 2 mirrors (front and back) without problem, using the techniques mentioned in this video. Thanks for sharing the techniques, which I think some hairdressers lacked.

Bonjour Monsieur Hair Buddha. Many thanks for this very video. Your explanations are so clear, that it gives us a very good method. As much precious it is, it confirms to me that I could not manage to cut my hair by my own. I have understood very well that the hairdressers' technics are destinated to themselves only and not for us, the customers. My conclusion is that it's not possible at all to cut my hair without any other person's intervention. I don't have eyes in my back neither arms long enough ; I don't have more than two arms so that I could apply these technics. It was, however, a pleasure to have these explanations. Thank you very much for you patience ans structured method.

This is great for cutting someone else's hair but not for cutting your own. Brad knows that going to the salon is best but his method of 4 pony tails is to help people cutting their own hair while in quarantine or who just wanted to do it themselves. It's not perfect but it's a lot better.

Yeah, he only made that video to help people out during lockdown. He knew that people are going to try to cut their own hair anyway, so wanted to show people a way that would produce the best outcome from a diy cut. Not perfect, but way better than a lot of the "techniques" people had been using.

I actually saw that video and attempted it, I couldn't get one small spot, but I also wasn't worried about it, the main place I go to, if I'm not home, is Walmart lmao 😂 I actually left it like it was for months, finally went to a professional after they were opened again, of course it was for a cut and bleach, because I also bleached my hair at home, which didn't turn out too bad, and the professional saw it and told me it actually wasn't a hair fail😌 I did however, end up spending like twice the money, because I did it at home first, and then went to get it done professionally, but I didn't know at the time that it was a permanent dye I had used like 2 years before lmao😆

I would not be brave enough to try it for a bob. I have curly waist length hair and use the one pony tail on the front of my hair, trim that. It can leave lines in layers, so the bottom underneath hair in a ponytail bought forward and trim that, to get rid of the scraggly bits. To get softer layers, I take all the hair to a ponytail on top of my hair, inline with my ears, and pull straight up and trim. Luckily my curls mistakes obvious.

@@rosenervik9964 He literally said it’s impossible to do without the help of someone else. If you want layers, do your thing, but just know that it’s nowhere near the right method for people who just want a straight trim. You could realistically do the sides the way he showed, but having someone help you with the back is still cheaper than going to a salon if that’s your thing. Personally, people shouldn’t be cutting their hair at home. It costs like $10 to get a trim, and is guaranteed to come out even.
