@moonlight moonlight Hi, from the serial number, It looks like it's a 15K, part of a batch of 225,000 from June 11, 1937. Thanks for watching.

@moonlight moonlight The best thing to do is check out listings for similar machines in your area and look at the prices they go for. Or have a look on ebay. Then either list it for sale on an online site like ebay or a local site like craigslist, or maybe even put a "for sale" ad in your local newspaper. The make, model, It's condition and your location may affect the price or value.

I will be looking mine up tomorrow morning I saw it three blocks down the road out of the corner of my eye came around the man had apparently set it out 10 minutes earlier and when I looked at it there was not anywhere on the machine itself the only damage was to the windfolded up top I am so thankful I found it. And I just have a fascination with modern machines even if they are a hundred years old or so that just makes it so much better in my mind.

Thank you so much I finally found my lady using ISMACS. I never gave her the respect she deserved but I had to replace the bobbin winder rubber and Singer sewing DID NOT have a 'Y' series only a 'no letter' section. so I took a chance and purchased for a 201k ..but seemed a bit big and decided find help on you tube.. So I was very pleased to discover you WONDERFUL... found your video. Explained step ny step, nice and simple THANK YOU. i checked my billing receipt and it appears that the rubber winder also fits 99k, so now have confidence to fit. I assume my old one was just worn, THANK YOU AGAIN...hated the thought i was damaging my machine.

What folks need to know, is that these "Old" and "Vintage" sewing machines were BUILT TO LAST A LIFETIME ! The treadle machine my wife made her own beautiful Wedding dress on (about 40 years ago! 😉 ) was already 65 years old back then. And it is still being used today! Try that with your "Modern Computerized" machine of today. And I've repaired Singer 201-2 and 15-91 models from the 30's that now run "as good as New!". Nope! No doubt about it. The machines built from 1880 till about the 1960's, those with ALL METAL gears inside, and a genuine HIGH QUALITY motor are going to be with us, and sewing for many decades to come. (The first "mass market" electric Sewing machine date from about 1928. Or there about. But Singer had built some electric machines as early as 1889!)

Found two vintage machines at an estate sale, and managed to get a personal one that was my aunts grandmother's machine. Excited to ID the time period and really not looking forward to repairing it, regardless, I cannot do anything until I get back home and look into it more. My serial number appears to start with a clear CE50, have a somewhat obscured 36, and what I think to be an S (far to obscured to see without using a pencile and paper to copy the code). Looked into it a bit, and found this video on the ISMACS site, though without a CE section (only a C-). End goal would be to restore it to nearly like new condition, with as many old parts as possible, and then run it with an external power adapter (was electrified at some point for 110V DC or 70 "cycles" AC).

That's awesome! The family history attached to this machine is amazing! Records have been lost from some factories over the years. Some information, particularly on European factories, was lost after WW2. I'm not sure where H refers to. As a few on the actual serial number page show Montreal, it might be a Canadian machine. I'm only guessing though. You might find joining the ISMACS Digest helpful. ismacs.net/digest.html There are people on there that have knowledge on Singers from all over. You can ask questions about your machine there. Someone is bound to know where H numbers were made. If you find out, let me know! Thanks for watching! 😀

The serial number was part of a batch 0f 50,000 allocated to Singer 66 machines on July 8 1926. Unfortunately, I can't confirm that you machine is a 66 without seeing pictures. To be a 66 the machine must be a top loader or drop-in bobbin. There should be a stitch length lever (sometimes a silver knob) on the pillar, and a thread guide for the bobbin winder over by the serial number. Check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fILGYpyqosRraK8 and you'll see one of my Singer 66s. If yours looks like that - it stands a good chance that it's a 66.

@@ccarley9133 The power source doesn't make any difference to the age of the machine. Treadles and handcranks were still a thing in 1926. So too were the new, electric machines. You'll also find that some machines were converted to electric after purchase.

@simply stitchy. antique sewing machines... im researching my Great Great Great (Great? Not sure how many greats) Grandmother's Singer treadle machine.. so far I've found out it was manufactured in 1864, the year before they rolled out the "lock stitch" and 20yrs before they rolled out the "vibrating shuttle", and before they were making them with households in mind, more geared twds seamstresses and tailors... so... but... do you (or anyone on here!) know how I can find out exactly how the lack of these tech advances will change how I need to sew? No lock-stitch? Hmmm. What did a gal do before lock stitch I wonder... after I refinish the wood and get a new belt, I will start experimenting... also, research said no lock stitch, but it has a bobbin! So many mysteries to uncover, any ideas or pointers appreciated!
@SimplyStitchy
@SimplyStitchy 2 жыл бұрын
1864! Wow! That is so cool! What a treasure! What machine is it? I doubt you'll see much difference in sewing with a chain stitch over a lock stitch. There are differences in the actual stitch, but sewing them is pretty much the same. With the chain stitch, you'll use more thread and get a stretchier result. They still use chain stitch today in things like jean waistbands and hems. It's actually a pretty strong stitch. For extra security you'll find knotting the thread ends will stop your seams unraveling over time. Without knowing what machine you have, I can't really say why it would be a chain stitch machine with a bobbin. Is the bobbin fitted into the machine or just in the accessories? Could it be from another machine? I'd love to see pictures of your machine. You can share them with me on my SimplyStitchy facebook page. 😀

Kind of tricky without pictures but I can give it my best guess. Anytime I come across a sewing machine with an unknown name, I immediately think - shop's own brand. These are "badged" machines that would have been sold through local department stores like Sears. Unfortunately, although Sears had regular manufacturers making machines for them - White and Davis, for instance - It's not always easy to tell which manufacturer made what machine. Yours could have been made by any of them. However, the name coming up most in searches for the Aviator is the Free Sewing Machine Company from Illinois. Have you tried comparing your machine to models in the Free range to see if it's similar? At this stage, I'm just guessing as I can't see your machine but checking out known manufacturers is a good place to start. Thanks for watching 🙂

Singer 15K88 machines were built in Scotland. The 'K' stands for Kilbowie, Clydebank. So it would have been exported to East Africa. To be able to estimate its age, I would need the serial number of the machine. The one you have quoted is the number for the instruction booklet. That number indicates that the book was printed in around 1948. So going by that, your machine might have been bought in 1948 or later, although that's a guess. Do you still have the machine? The serial number should be at the base of the pillar. However, the serial number will only tell you when the serial number was issued... it won't be able to tell you when the machine was purchased - you'll need an original sales receipt for that.

As far as I know, there isn't a sewing machine company called Venecia. Based on your comment, I think your machine could be a clone model sold by a local department store. They would have put their own badge or branding on them. Unfortunately, clones don't show up on the Singer database because they weren't made by Singer. Most were made in Japan. Thanks for watching :)

As far as I know, serial numbers starting with a C refer to machines made in Germany. Unfortunately, the Singer factory in Germany ceased to exist after WW2, and all the records they kept disappeared along with it. The best you can hope for with your machine is knowing the serial numbers with a C range from 1908 to 1945 ish. Sometimes, checking the decals can help narrow the possible age a little bit. Try this link on the ISMACS website: ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/decals/domestic-decals.html Thanks for watching! 🙂

I'm so glad I ran into your channel. I have a singer sewing machine stand, only missing the best part, the sewing machine. The stands are hard to find around here. Now I'm on the hunt for the right sewing machine. How do you figure that out? Any suggestions would be appreciated 👍!
@SimplyStitchy
@SimplyStitchy 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the kind of stand you have. Most of Singer's machines could fit in most of their tables. They did that so customers could mix and match the machines to the table they liked best. There's always a few exceptions though. As you've said "stand", I'm guessing it's a treadle base? Iron legs, wooden top? Any of Singer's treadle machines should fit, like the Singer 66, Singer 15 or Singer 27 for instance. If it's just the legs and no top, you can make the top fit the machine. The right machine is up to you. There are loads to choose from. If it was me, I'd be on the look out for a 15, 66, 201, 301 or 401. All are full size machines and workhorses. If you want slightly smaller, the 99 is the 3/4 version of the 66. The 99 was designed to be portable though so may be a bit small if you have an existing hole in the table top. Whatever machine you go for - it'll be a great match for your stand! Good luck in your search and thanks for watching!

Hi, S2235851 is coming up in the batch covering serial numbers S2188280 - S2388279. There were 200,000 made between July and Dec of 1907. The model looks to be a 28K so it could be a Kilbowie, Scotland machine. You can confirm that by looking at the machine. it should say Made in Great Britain, or manufactured in Great Britain. Should be either across the top of the arm or at the back of the pillar. Thanks for watching 🙂

I have a Singer 66 - AL458820 "born" in 1953. It was sold for "decoration", since the bobbin system is nowhere to be found in Brasil. I still would like to find the replacement part and put it to work. I also have a JB983715 (no Idea of the model) and a G264972, which is a 66, too, but the regular bobbin system, although I was "born" in 1910. There is another one for "decoration", and I'll have to check the number. It is from the 1910's, as I checked earlier. There are another two Singers. I have to take note of them, too. Too many "black" Singers? Well, no. There are four 221's, too. (I am now in search of a Singer 12.)

Adam Ruggeri - I have a notification that you left a comment, but can't find your comment to reply to. Your serial number shows your machine to be from 1929. Value depends on your location; how many similar machines are available in your area; its general condition; if it works; if it has accessories... and if someone wants to buy it. Your best bet is to check eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and Craigslist for your area. That will give you a ballpark figure. At the end of the day, your sewing machine is only worth what a buyer wants to pay for it. Which may end up being a lot less than you want.

@SimplyStitchy
@SimplyStitchy 2 жыл бұрын
Your Y serial number was generated in1925 at the Elizabethport factory in New Jersey. Then, the serial number was allocated to a machine in 1933. In this case, ISMACS shows it as being a Singer 15K from April 26 1933. The K indicates it was made in Kilbowie, Scotland. Singer used to do that a lot. They would store serial numbers and use them up at a later date. So it's perfectly possible to have a serial number that predates your machine. Thanks for watching 🙂

@SimplyStitchy
@SimplyStitchy 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, the JD prefix and the 15J indicate the St John's factory in Canada www.singersewinginfo.co.uk/stjohns The bad news is, exact dating is little tricky. It looks as though JD is a bulk prefix stretching from 1954-1961. Valuations depend on a number of factors. As well as the age of the machine, you're looking at condition, whether it works, location, and how popular Singer 15s are in your area. The decals on the machine will also make a bit of a difference. I don't tend to do individual valuations as I can't gauge popularity in your area. If it was me, in my location and it's in tip-top, working condition, with an immaculate table, I'd be looking at no higher than $90. It's a Singer 15 and they're not rare. However, if it's in a Cabinet #42, it could up the price a bit as they are highly sort after tables. You can get #100+ for just the table, again depending on the condition. So, maybe $150-$200 for both depending on your location. If you want to support me and my channel you can donate to my kofi page here: ko-fi.com/simplystitchy Thanks for watching! 😀

That serial number is coming up as a Singer 66 from April 25, 1955. Without pictures, I can't confirm what kind of machine you have, but I can make a couple of assumptions from the model and date. If it's a 66, then it's one of Singer's popular models. This particular serial number is linked to a batch of 25,000 machines. Being built in 1955 suggests that it is electric. So it's basically a vintage electric sewing machine. Value depends on a number of factors. Age, rarity, cosmetic condition, working condition, the area where you live, and how many 66s are available in your area. It also depends on how much a buyer wants to pay for it. I don't do individual valuations but what I can do is share this link to a video showing how to sell a sewing machine and the things to take into consideration: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4q1f2puZ9-XbJYsi=pvfRjhw0dzx1oigQ Hope that helps. @SimplyStitchy
@SimplyStitchy 2 жыл бұрын
Are you sure it's JG? Not JC or maybe JE? Most of the Jx prefixes were made at the St John's factory in Quebec Canada, but I don't think they go up as high as JG. I'm not sure but I think they only go JA to JE. A JC prefix would put your machine somewhere between 1948 - 1954. While a JE is anywhere from 1961 onwards. St John's closed in 1986. So the type of machine and what it looks like are going to be key to dating your machine.

@SimplyStitchy
@SimplyStitchy 2 жыл бұрын
The first thing to check is your needle. Is it inserted the right way around? Antique and vintage machines don't tend to thread from front to back like modern ones. They either go left to right, so your needle needs to be inserted with the flat side towards the pillar. Or right to left, that's less common but in that instance, your needle needs to be inserted with the flat side facing out to the left. This video might help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zl6zfqWNrauVn7M If that doesn't work, let me know what kind of treadle it is, (27? 66? 15?) and we'll try looking at the bobbin.

Yes. There is a 128 with a knee lever. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a link to a free manual for one. For the knee lever, try a manual for the Singer 99. ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/manuals/singer-portable-electric-sewing-machine-manual-99-13.pdf That should help you with setting the lever up. By rubber... do you mean the bobbin tire? If so, you can find them on Amazon: amzn.to/3QE4JYU there are others on there. Check the diameter of yours and find one that fits your machine. Unfortunately, I don't do sewing machine valuations. The value depends on a lot of variables including your location, the rarity of the machine, the popularity of the machine in your area, general condition, age, and working condition. Best thing to do is check the "for sale" ads in your area for similar machines. Also check the sold listings on eBay. If there aren't any for sale in your area, try a price. If it doesn't sell, lower the price until you get some interest.

The Ismacs database only really helps you date the serial number. Which can give you a rough idea of how old the machine is. The info on models isn't always accurate. To identify the machine, you need to look at its features. If it has a top loading bobbin and a flat bed it's a 66. If it looks like an industrial and has a cylindrical bed, it's a 17. Check this website out, www.sandman-collectibles.com/id-singer-machines.htm - work your way through the questions and it should help you figure out what your machine is. Thanks for watching! 🙂

A Singer machine without a letter at the start of the serial number usually indicates the machine is from the late 1800s. That would mean your serial number puts the machine at around 1879. However, I can't confirm it's age, make or model without seeing some pictures of it. You can send pictures through to me by direct message on my facebook page. It's called Simply Stitchy.

I have a Singer sewing machine that is almost identical to yours, but my serial number does not have any letter in front of the number. I have tried to search for it on the website you recommended, but I couldn't find it. The serial number that appears is 907115. Could anyone suggest any other sites where I can search for the information I need? I would appreciate any clues or suggestions. Thank you!

Singers that predate 1900 didn't have any letters before the numbers. I've checked the Ismacs.net site for you and your machine looks to be in the batch 611,000 - 913,999 from 1871. This link might help you identify it: ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/singer-sewing-machine-models.html or you could try here: www.singersewinginfo.co.uk/gallery_machines Thanks for watching! 🙂

@@SimplyStitchy Thank you for sharing the links! I'm curious to know if my vintage sewing machine is a non-Singer model. Do you have any information about Mundlos Sewing machines? I found a stamp on it that says "Original Mundlos". Initially, I thought it was a Singer VS3 family machine, possibly from around 1893/1894 due to its rectangular base and similar structural design. The furniture it came with is from Singer as well. However, I have now discovered that it's not the same as the Singer VS3 family model. I will continue my search, but thank you again for your help! Please take care of yourself and stay healthy.

Hi Philip, according to your serial number you have a Singer 15 from 1946. I can't confirm it's definitely a 15 from the 1940s without pictures. Nor can I give you an individual valuation. Value depends on where you are, how rare the machine is in your area, its general condition, the condition of the accessories that go with it, and whether it works or not. Having said that, Singer 15s aren't rare. Nor are they particularly valuable. Your best bet is to check your local Craigs List and Facebook Marketplace to see what they are fetching where you are. You can also try the sold/completed listings on eBay - but - eBay prices can be overinflated to allow for selling fees. They can also include an element of bidder panic, so keep that in mind if you use ebay to gauge the value of your machine. Thanks for watching 🙂

@@SimplyStitchy can you get parts easy for them? I g so are things expensive for these. Because I’m missing the belt to the sewing machine. I don’t sew so I have so much to learn what it needs.

@@bobbiejo509 When you say belt, is it a treadle machine? If it is, you can get treadle belts from Amazon : amzn.to/3CbZ2Y7 (affiliate link) You can still get parts for the Singer 15. it's one of the more popular models. It takes regular Class 15 bobbins and needles : www.vintagesingerparts.com/ or try www.sewingpartsonline.com/search.html?keywords=singer%2015&index=1 . You should also be able to download a manual for it from here: ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/manuals/singer-sewing-machine-manuals.html

My serial number starts with a C and it's 7 digits, but there is nothing in C, it only says: "When Russian army invaded Germany in 1945, they stripped all the machinery from the Singer Company's Wittenberg factory." Sooo, what does that mean?
@SimplyStitchy
@SimplyStitchy Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, it means there are no records for machines with serial numbers starting with a C. They were lost or possibly destroyed. Your machine would have been manufactured between 1908 and 1945, the date range for the Wittenberg Factory. You could try comparing your machine against similar models made at other Singer factories. That might help narrow the date range down a bit. But, it's going to be more of a ball park best guess rather than an exact date.

Hi Ashley, the 96K49 is an industrial machine from Kilbowie, Scotland. If you have a look at the base of the pillar, you should see a serial number. It could start with a letter, or just be numbers. Can you let me know what the serial number is and I'll see if I can find anything out about it.

I have a 1910 singer it does not have a bobbin it has a shuttle is that normal
@SimplyStitchy
@SimplyStitchy 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, The shuttle is the name of the bullet-shaped outer metal casing that holds the bobbin. The bobbin is the long thin spool that holds the thread and sits inside the shuttle. You should have both. Here's a link so you can see what the long bobbin looks like - amzn.to/2S0AWgY Thanks for watching. 🙂
