@@VegasAces I got invited to an interview but sadly I didn't get job this time. The worst part in all of this is that I don't feel like I was given a chance, the recruiter didn't ask me any questions, nor did she let me talk about myself. She just provided information about the scheduling and some of the standard procedures at the break-in house, which in turn made me assume that I'd already gotten the position ( I guess it doesn't help that it was my first ever job interview so I had no idea what to expect :/ ). I live in a small town across the pond and sadly there aren't a lot of opportunities for us who would like to work as dealers / croupiers. It is probably hard to come up with, but do you have any tips of what I should do? Thanks! :)

If the dealer makes sure to inform the floorman whenever they make mistakes then the dealer won't get in as much trouble. Usually you'll get a warning. If you've gotten multiple warnings for the same offense then the casino will give you a write up. And, of course, it depends on the casino. I was working at a hole in the wall where the casino manager wrote up a floorman for leaning on the podium because the casino manager didn't like the dude and was giving him a hard time.

Hi Heather, been on the floor for about 6 weeks now. Still making some bonehead mistakes, especially not calling out "Pay or take table max", but the supervisors seem to like my level and customer service overall. My lack of speed is another sticky issue. Some bosses say, "Deal carefully and accurately.... the speed will come", whereas others seem to regard speed as a given even with a new dealer. I was scolded for slowness after my first 20 minutes on the floor, which I thought was ridiculous.

When you receive a tip, you tap it on the rack and then drop it in your toke box. Never drop your tip in the drop box because then it's not your tip anymore, it's the casino's money and there is no way of getting it back. So make sure to drop your tip in the toke box.

I'm a dealer and I have never gambled. I haven't even stepped foot in a casino before I became a dealer, and I have never heard of blackjack before. I was an alright, not too shabby might I add dealer. I would have been stupendous if I understood the payouts better and I don't think it's because I've never played before , it's more so because my teacher would rather focus on other thing rather than what he should have been teaching. However, due to covid I was furloughed from my job and for three years I've been away from the casino industry, until recently I decided to come back. Unfortunately, I have forgotten the payouts. Being a former dealer I want to be one of the top students in my class, which is why I am here watching this video today lol.

i thought the same thing honestly but it's very fun dealing you don't necessarily have to be very professional to be a dealer, in a lot of casinos you can defiantly have fun with your customers. casinos expect dealers to make mistakes and they wont fire you for them unless you are making them very often it's more if you try to fix your mistake without letting your floor know you are likely to get fired.

On both the shoe game and a handheld game, the dealer should always finish their hand (or finish shuffling) before the relief dealer takes their place. If it's just one dealer who is always leaving the table without finishing the hand then notify the floor. If leaving in the middle of the hand is a policy procedure specific to your casino, then talk to the floor about the correct procedure to use when entering a table.

Thanks! I'm glad it helped! 1. Craps dealers are in higher demand then blackjack dealers, so, yes, craps dealers can get a job easier then blackjack dealers. But the more games you know the better. And now-a-days the casinos want you to know craps as well as other table games, like Blackjack or Let It Ride. 2. That's a personal opinion and every dealer feels differently about that subject. For me, I liked having the tips pooled because then we would get a nice steady average and it was easier to plan and pay bills that way. If you keep your own tips, some nights you might leave with $15 and other nights you might leave with $300. 3. You don't need to go through a school to get a job. Go downtown to the El Cortez or the Plaza or one of those casinos and ask for an audition. Normally you can get one, no problem, and if you've dealt before then I'm sure you'll pass. Once you work in that house for 3-6 months you can start moving your way up through the casinos. 4. A good dealer will never run out of cards. They could get written up for this. That is why the dealer places the cut card a certain length from the back of the deck and it is also why the dealer must follow a specific math formula when dealing single deck. 5. Yes, of course. We are all human and mistakes are a given. That is why if the dealer makes a mistake then they will call over the floorman immediately (as soon as they realized they made a mistake) and the floor will fix the mistake without penalizing the dealer. The casino knows dealers make mistakes and that is why they have certain procedures in place. They will only discipline the dealer if it is a large and costly mistake or if the dealer keeps making the same mistakes over and over again.

As a dealer, it's important to be flexible to how your house, floorman or instructor wants a procedure done a certain way. It might suck, but you must follow what your floorman or instructor wants. This goes for all procedures. Now, when you go into your new casino and start working as a dealer, ask the management if they want you to flip over the cards with your deck hand or your dominant hand. And then follow what they tell you.

The cost of dealing school varies depending on what school you go to. It can range from $200 - $1,500. Or it can be free because some casinos are able to provide that to you. & the amount of time it takes varies as well. It took me 1 1/2 weeks to learn blackjack; the average is 2 weeks to 1 month; the longest I've ever seen anyone go to school was 9 months; or some community colleges or normal colleges offer classes and it will take a semester. It just depends on so many different factors.

Here's a variation on the shuffling procedure I observed at Mohegan Sun Connecticut: 1) The cut card is placed approximately half-way through shoe. 2) When the cut card appears, it is given directly to the player who would have received the card as part of a hand, and is given the first card after the cut card instead. 3) The remaining cards are taken out of the shoe and split into four equal stacks. 4) Each stack is placed in a random spot in the discard rack. 5) The entire six decks are taken out and shuffled using the approved shuffle procedure. 6) After completion of the shuffle, the decks are extended to the player for the cut. 7) The player must cut at least one deck in from either end. 8) The decks are placed in the shoe. 9) The burn card is shown to the players and the cameras. 10) The dealer is now ready to continue the game. Greg Besso Thanks! It's always interesting to see how different casinos have different procedures. I'm surprised that they cut the deck in half. I've only seen this done a couple times while I've been dealing and it's usually because the floor knows they have a high profile card counter on the table. So cutting the deck in half is great against card counters but it's not so good on a normal table with normal players. The reason why is because there is more time spent shuffling and less time dealing cards. Which means the casino is losing money because the dealers "hands-per-hour" count goes down. Another thing I'm surprised about is that they take two extra steps to increase their game security but then they show their burn card. That's just strange. Anyway, those are my thoughts. Vegas Aces I can think of a couple reasons Mohegan Sun does what they do. When they first opened in the mid-1990s, they were hit HARD by the MIT Blackjack Team, on the order of at least $250,000. I think they cut the shoe in half to discourage card counters from joining the game in the first place. I think they show the burn card to the cameras because they have trained staff that can count cards (they call it "running down a shoe"), and they'll count along. If they determine that a player is not doing anything improper, they'll still book the player's action. If, however, the staff determines that they have a card counter, they'll just say, "Your minimum bet is your maximum bet," which means the counter is not allowed to bet more than the table minimum. OK, this is just me reasoning things out. I appreciate your thoughts, Heather!

"Card Down" is not a serious problem. It's normal & it happens to every dealer. When the card goes over the table just call over the floor and wait for him to come over and retrieve it. While you are waiting, keep your eyes on the area where the card went down to make sure no one marks it or replaces the card. If you are pitching and the card goes to the spot next to the area where you wanted it, then stop pitching and physically move the card over to the intended spot and then continue.

I have a few questions. Suppose the lowest denomination in the dealer tray is $0.50 and blackjack pays 3:2. A player bets $5.00, gets blackjack, and lets the $12.50 ride. What happens if: 1. the player wins with a second consecutive blackjack? 2. the player surrenders? 3. the dealer has an ace upcard, the player does not have blackjack, and the player wants insurance?

1. The dealer can't pay $0.25 on a $0.50 cent blackjack so breakage applies. Breakage is when the $0.50 is paid even money instead of the 3:2 bonus. 2. I work at a casino dealing Blackjack and Craps. Craps was the first game I learned surprisingly. I love it. After learning Craps, Blackjack seems extremely boring lol. Anybody can deal this game it's really not that hard. It does get confusing at first when you're dealing and Aces come up. Even the best dealers still make a mistake once in awhile. Paying or taking a push is the most common mistake.

Josh Hubbard....lol....I have worked. and trained dealers, who just couldn't get anything right. Blackjack Dealers aren't dealers.....we are "entertainers" that deal Blackjack. Seriously. As a dealer, you have to make winning or losing, fun for the players. This creates a loyal player base, to the dealer and the casino. I have had my toke box changed 3 times in an hour and 20 minutes of dealing....ALL $25 dollar chips in my boxes. I love getting a $1,000 toke, cheque changing it, calling it out, and the pit boss ringing the bell....lol....ain't nothing like it! If dealers didn't have a personality like a door knob, they would make more money. As a dealer, no matter what game, you should always make the game fun, interact with the players. Your paycheck depends on it.

You'll automatically start out as extra board and some casinos will only make you work 3 - 4 nights a week while other casinos will make you work 6 - 7 nights a week. It depends on what casino you're at. And it takes about a year to get full-time status.

Of course! That's the only way we are going to learn! :-D You're right, when dealing a handheld game you are never supposed to turn the cards over with your deck hand. This is bad game protection. Now here's the thing... The casino industry (& this includes the dealing schools) doesn't have a set standard for how things are supposed to be done & because of that every person has learned differently & therefore, they will teach you like how they were taught whether it's correct procedure or not.

I'm happy this video helped you! :-D The best way that I've found to improve your card counting skills is to take a deck of cards and remove all of the tens from the deck. Then flip over each card and count until you've hit 21 or have busted. I go over this a bit in my video at the 0:15:35 mark. Hope that helped! Good luck! :)

Yes, I recommend trying to get a job as a dealer without any previous experience. Go to the casino you wish to work at and talk to the Human Resources department or a Shift Manager and they will tell you what you need to do to get a job. Sometimes they offer on-site training. +Greg Besso Basically, the used cards are checked by the floor to make sure that they are all there and then he puts it back in its original box and it's shipped to a company that cuts the corners of the cards off and/or puts a hole in the middle of the card and they repackage it and ship it back to the casinos so they can sell the used decks in their gift shops.

From European dealer perspective... The best BJ dealers like Monaco Tournament Champions (it is like a Noble price for dealing in Europe) didn't knew rules of BJ before learning how to deal it. Not always the boot (the shoe) is with a chain - in European casinos it would never happen, but in US or Asian casinos it is a common thing. In Europe it is common that you are dealing BJ with 6 decks and shuffling by a "C type" standard, but always make sure that you know and understand a procedure of your house. Two cutting cards are preventing "counting cards" like in "21" movie, if you think that your player is counting cards just cut a deck in half. Shuffling technique from that film is uncommon in Europe, but interesting, as it is said make sure you understand a shuffling procedure in your house - it is a base of your quality dealing BJ. European standard is completely opposite to US standard if we are talking about putting cards on a table - in UE and most of Eastern Europe countries you should put carts near the signature (A dimont, 2 heart and so one). You Should cover a picture of card with another card. But as always, make sure that you know and understand a procedure of your house. Putting cards procedure in that film is described as in international standard - Turkey has a unique procedure (Turkish style). The double and split procedure is universal of course. Always put cads in a special way - it is preventing paying Black Jack while split or reminding that you should pay 2 to 1 while double - life is easier with procedures :) "Throwing" cards to player in Europe is reserved to Texas Hold'em, 7-stud and Omaha pokers only. Do not do that on BJ or Baccarat in Europe!(showed technique is useful on pokers dealing :) In Europe and most of Asian (Yachts too) casinos you never check your cards! You are just asking about insurgence. But make sure bla bla bla at your house :) In Europe you should don't bother about cheques - in most cases there is an inspector that is dealing with money and your chips. But as always bla bla bla... European technique for proving that 5 chips is 5 chips is just to spread them. Witch 2,5, 25 or 250 you NEVER show 6 chips like 3+3, always 4 + 2 - in Europe of course, but bla bla bla... In Europe player cannot touch cards on BJ - remember to secure cards on your table - it is your quality of dealing for cameras. If you are paying MAKE SURE THAT YOU KNOW AND UNDERSTAND A PROCEDURE OF YOUR HOUSE(very important, that's why it is not a "bla bla". If you are taking chips away from player just do it quick, but remember how many chips you are taking. You always can give back chips and pay, if you pay a looser bet you can have problems with having it back. Converting cheques are strictly forbidden in Europe! Although bla bla bla.... She is emphasises it but ALWAYS REMEMBER TO PAY BLACK JACK 2 TO 3 ON A DEALERS BET - that;s your many :) Changing money - ALWAYS make sure that you KNOW and UNDERSTAND rules of your house. In Europe you shouldn't cover any payout with your palm or a finger and always clear your hands after payout. While changing a lot of bills into chips ask your Inspector about "cheque 20" procedure. Money playing on BJ is forbidden in most of EU casinos, so make sure bla bla bla (in most cases you should change money for chips and make sure that Inspector saw that) About "alert calls" - always bla bla bla - I'm working at casino where you're making alert calls only for money change or for a champaign for 3 x 7. At European casinos "markers" if available in your country are marked by chips. Your Inspector is doing the rest ;) As always bla bla bla, but it is a standard that you cannot have a watch or rings on your hands while dealing. Tips are always changed or droped as a last procedure - cultural thing, but in Europe you cannot be satisfied before customer. As I see on KZbin in USA your house is more to fire you than correct your behaviour. In Europe you'll be treated better as a dealer than in "VEY-GAS". It is a very high quality content video. I'd recommend it as a professional Inspector at Polish casino dealing BJ, roulette, 3 kinds of poker against casino and Texas Hold'em . Thank you for doing that :)

If you get tapped off the table when you're in the middle of shuffling, you must finish the shuffle before leaving the table. I know it sucks but you must finish it the shuffling procedure before going on break.

No, you won't have to. So, if you start shuffling and then the relief dealer taps you out, then you would finish shuffling, offer the deck to be cut, put it in the shoe, burn the first card and then clap out to go on break.

In terms of insurance for a $5.00 table, would the player buying insurance put a $5 cheque on the insurance line, or ask for change for the half bet ($2.50)? Dale D Thank you! :) The faster the game goes, the more money casinos make, therefore the casinos love a fast game. And that is the reason why, as a dealer, it is better to leave the $5 cheque on the insurance line and only make change when necessary. If the dealer makes change every time, this will slow down the game. -- If you are the player, then just put the $5 on the insurance line and see what the dealer does (go with the flow type of deal).
