I've seen these fly over my city. Didn't know how difficult it was to fly these things. It's awesome.

Very informative video! Is there any maintenance required after an intentional overspeed? I've never seen anyone teach students to do this and I thought it would ground the aircraft.

Its only up by about 3-4 %, no damage

@@capecopters But according to the Robinson maintenance manual, “only up by 3-4%, no damage” requires an inspection (overspeed recorded in the aircraft log book and the oil filter and screens checked for metal) by an Engineer. Not excluding the fact that the limitation section of the R44 POH states that the maximum continuous ERPM is 102% and “intentional operation above maximum continuous power is prohibited”

Can you please you explain why you wouldn’t get as close to hover as possible and raise collective whilst simultaneously rolling off the throttle, rather than intenally over speeding the engine

You are right. He is not doing it correctly.

That’s an engine overspeed and totally the wrong way to teach this maneuver. Can NOT pass the red limit on the engine side.

Both of your stuck left pedal videos are wrong. Even another viewer agreed. You don’t over speed an engine to control the left pedal being stuck. Smh. pilotkisses 1 second ago Sadly…. This is not the correct procedure for a stuck left pedal and surely an unnecessarily long run on, on an icy runway which is not better like you said, that’s worse! Luckily you didn’t roll it over. Steep approach would have allowed you to come to a hover. Your nose is stuck left, adding power as you slow down below 30 kts and into a hover would have brought it to the right. (Straight). Although that is not the way I teach or or bell school teaches it. WE make a normal approach, and as you slow to a hover, you pump the collective up and down… this will slowly bring the nose to the right. Once it’s about 1 or 2 o’clock…Roll throttle off. Surely would never do a 30-40 kts run on when you can just hover it.
