I have watched lots of videos complaining about the 1.5m change or 2m change for pedestrians. I think you have clarified it perfectly, the 1.5m rule for cyclists means overtake them as if they are a car, or for pedestrians treat them like a parked car on the road. Many thanks for this keep up the good work

The highway code rules essentially mean that when overtaking a cyclist, you should regard them as having the same size as a car (the width of a bike 0.5m + a 1.5m gap = 2m which is the width of a car). When overtaking a cyclist therefore a driver should ask themselves whether they'd overtake a car in the same place. If you're overtaking a car you need to move into the oncoming lane (or another lane on a multi-lane road) and so a driver needs to do the same when overtaking a cyclist. Most dangerous close passes of cyclists occur, because drivers attempt to overtake when there is oncoming traffic or where traffic islands or other obstructions prevent them from moving into the oncoming lane.

Very good video sir, when I overtake cyclists I always imagine that they’re a car and I use the wrong side of the road to overtake them but unfortunately not all drivers do that, a lot of drivers overtake me when I’m cycling very close to me almost touching me, it’s very scary.
