The quays in Dublin can be lethal for drug addicts crossing the road in front of oncoming traffic without even looking. As a pedestrian, I've seen that a few times were it caused many cars to break or swerve suddenly. My instructor even warned me about it when we drove down the quays.

Hi Dane, if a pedestrian steps off the pavement - NOT at a pedestrian crossing- but then waits there at the side of the street to cross, is a driver still obligated to stop for them so they can cross? (even if they are not in any kind zebra crossing and haven't continued to walk across the street)
@DaneTygheletsdrive2 жыл бұрын
Yes usually the driver must wait for the pedestrian to cross in that case.
@dianam51412 жыл бұрын
@@DaneTygheletsdrive Thank you for your reply! So is not dangerous to allow the pedestrian to cross when they are not in a pedestrian crossing? Or is there just the general rule of once they are off the pavement cars have to stop for them no matter where they are (and even if they don't continue walking out into the street)? It just seems if a car stops in this case, it's putting the pedestrian in greater danger because without an appropriate crossing other cars/motorcycles/cyclists might not see them and try to go around the stopped car, possibly hitting the person.
@DaneTygheletsdrive2 жыл бұрын
There is no specific answer to these questions because it entirely depends on the situation and I'm certainly not going to be going into a hypothetical rabbit hole because we'd be here all day. What other cars do is up to them and you should not waste your time worrying about them. Just don't beckon the pedestrian out onto the road, let them make their own decision and if they want to walk out in front of a moving car then that's their choice, not yours.

Passed mine yesterday and was the same as yourself. I thought alot more theory was involved. The examiner for me anyway, seemed to ask me questions that are commonly asked so I didnt have a bother answering them. I'd say touch up on road signs but again they seem to ask common enough ones. Don't stress about the theory too much because if your driving is spot on you won't have anything to worry about, although it makes a good impression on the examiner if you are able to answer every question he throws at you !

To me it's insanity to cycle on the road full stop (think of the odds of an accident for a cyclist vs how many times he travels - practically guaranteed having an accident while extremely heavy vehicles are moving fast in your proximity). I used to always cycle on the footpath often, never had any issue (practically 0% risk for me or pedestrians), but granted I use common sense (and if something happened, sure, its crap, but car vs cyclist = death, while cyclist vs pedestrian = ouch, sorry about that{unless they are a madman on the footpaths - but that CAN BE SOLVED}). I think it's sad they 'have' to cycle on the road, cause I want to follow the rules, like to cycle, but there is no way you will see me cycle on a main road, unless I have to for a min or two for whatever reason (eg. paths blocked). Bear in mind, you may be a safe driver, but many are not. I'm not going to risk my life because you and a few others are good drivers. Now imagine those reckless (no common sense) cyclists on a road if forced to do so, or worse, driving. Bigger footpaths, loosen the laws and everyone just chill out. CCTV everywhere now if a cyclist were to be reckless or hit and run (is it really so hard for police to follow up, special licensees can be given to cyclists on footpaths too - and we'd all be a lot safer). Its not ideal but your not going to get ideal, all I know its almost impossible for me to have an accident on a bike on a foot path (especially a reasonably big one - forget about those retarded lanes too, how often do people walk in them, rules overload and 0 common sense), I think you're all mad. The one thing that would put me off driving is road cyclists, in my opinion they are insane and don't belong there - and ive cycled more than most. [Rant over]

Heading in for my second shot at it tomorrow, hoping it's second time lucky haha
@DaneTygheletsdrive3 жыл бұрын
In that situation you needed to be aware of the possibility of the Cyclist doing that so you should have been alert to the cyclist and the parked car because they can make sudden movements.

As both a cyclist and pedestrian learning to drive, I can guarantee that we are the most dangerous things on the road. Drivers know what they're doing. The rest of us are reckless morons lol Edit: If a cyclist is not on the road, they're not beholden to the rules of the road and they definitely don't care about them. They have a definite chance of suddenly deciding to use the road. It took me way too long to realise I was more of a factor of concern than a pedestrian because of how quickly I can move. I simply didn't give a shit.
