Why do you cut the bottle not just remove the cork?

Thank you for your comment. This is one of the suggested ways to open a Vintage Port (in this video you can see two ways). The main reason to use this technique is to avoid the cork to disintegrate. Vintage Ports are stored horizontally, with the wine in contact with the cork. Over time, this increases the chance for the cork to desintegrate when opening the wine. Using this technique allows to have a clean and precise opening.
