Joe just saved flight students from long hours of lecture on decoding a METAR with this 13minutes video. You're the best, Cap. Thumbs up👍❤❤🔥
@kubastachu98604 жыл бұрын
Long 15 hours of lecture on meteorology is actually necessary, it's probably the last topic you are willingly intrested in, yet most important when it comes to safety for VFR flights especially. Don't take it for granted, mate.

Hey pilot Joe, I have been interested in being a pilot since I was four years old😂 I don't even know why I said that, anyway, the reason that I am sending you this is because watching your channel and some others you have really helped me with educating myself on the career path, however, I have ran into some confusion. My question to you sir is if you need a degree to become a pilot because I have read you need one in aerospace engineering or air craft operation and I have also read that you don't need any. I just really needed some clarification on this since since I am already 17 and trying to think of if I should start my training and career right after finishing highschool or should I go to a college for one of these degrees. I have no idea when you'll see this but when ever you do thank you for making your videos and and thank you for when ever you answer🙏

Just a quick note, in some countries if CAVOK conditions apply AND there's no cloud cover and 10km+ visibility, then the Metar will just read CAVOK, and skip the visibility/cloud cover.

I’m a meteorology major in the United States and I learned this the other day. SKC means the sky is completely clear and CLR means the sky is clear. These may sound like they mean the same thing about if you see SKC on a METAR that means the observation was made by a human while CLR means that it was made by the laser. The difference in these are because the laser can pick up a clear sky straight above it but there can be thick, dense clouds/fog around it that the laser won’t pick up. This could be different in other countries but that’s how it is in America. I’m hoping to go into aviation meteorology in the next few years so stuff like this is very interesting to me.

Before seeing this video, I only knew the long form of METAR which is Meteorological Aerodrome Report, but I didn't know a thing of what's written in it. Hi Captain, I remember listening to ATIS (on a hacked FM radio) from GVA years ago. Three things: 1) they would say Geneva information Foxtrot ; letter changed every 30 mins. 2) Charlie Bravo was sometimes mentioned, what did that mean ? 3) same for NOSIG. Is that old terminology ?
@HarryBird4 жыл бұрын
Since it’s an ATIS the information letter would just be changed when the conditions changed enough that the data in the broadcast would have to be updated. So if there was fog at 0800 you might have Information Alpha changing to Bravo when it cleared as an example. 2) CB is the code for Cumulonimbus cloud 3) NOSIG just means No Significant Weather in the vicinity.
