The change in the alphabetical sequence for vehicle plates does not strictly follow a year-by-year progression. Instead, a new letter is introduced only when the previous sequence has been fully exhausted. Given the exclusion of "I" (to avoid confusion with "1"), if we were to follow a sequential, yearly progression, "O" might indeed appear by 2024. However, because new letters are only introduced as needed, the sequence doesn't necessarily advance every single year. That’s why we're currently still on the "J" series since early last year

The last two letters does not always correspond with d year of vehicle registration. I registered mine in 2021 and d last letter is GV.

That's how it's supposed to be, but it actually doesn't always follow because for some reason people personally choose numbers. You could register a care today and get a higher number, including the last 2 codes, than what a latter registration would be.

My old car plate was CAL-458TC. The car was manufactured in 1998, and the number was gotten in 2021.

The first letter is actually the local government capital not the local government itself BEN is Benin for Oredo LGA, USL is Uselu for Egor LGA, UGH is Ughelli for Ughelli north LGA, EFU is for Effurun for Uvwie LGA.

This is indirectly not true.. it simply just means when the number plates was printed/ also remember number plates aren't transferable meaning you can reuse your old number plates for a new car , hereby nullifying your analogy.

I don't have the info for Alimosho but Ibeju-Lekki is AKD because the local government office is at Akodo. Like Amuwo Odofin is FST (Festac Town)

Going back your explanation, this identification system isn't good enough 1. What happens after 2026 where letter Z has been exhausted for the first of the last 2 letters 2. The last letter representing the batch seems to only be a multiplier for the 3 digits number. I think we still need to find better ways to tag vehicles

That’s when the plate number was printed, not exactly when the car was registered. So, and old plate number can be used on a car getting registered in a later year. Case in point, your car registered in 2018 with an AA plate number.

This video is utterly misleading. I have a car registered in 2024 August with plate number of JR. By your calculation, it is supposed to be 2020. Also, the alphabetical sequence is only followed by Lagos State registrations. I also know a car registered in Abia State since 2018 wit MG. Another in Rivers State with JD. Please take this video down. It will stain your brand.
