Wow! Impressive. Thank you for this. That bit about how much to pull, doing the off center-line buttons, really shows you've done this before. I'm hoping I can do close to this well. My first project is a chaise. Thanks again!

Excellent lesson. Have seen various but this is the best. Thank you. Have a big endeavor. Grandma's 100 yr old couch can only afford partial professional help. Fabric is gorgeous but was worried about ruining pattern, now I feel there just might be hope! Have reupholstered but never tufted, thks again

This is deep buttoning , tufting is a mixed up american term, tufts are used in mattress making

I wouldn't recommend buttoning a pattern fabric unless required to hold the fabric into a curved back etc. the whole point of buttoning is to create a design instead of a pattern and to make the upholstery look opulent and plush

Thanks Jonathan. You are right about the term and I apologize for the mistake. Here in Italy they just say capitonné. I intended deep buttoning as you perceived. As the pattern is larger (but traditional) I agree in regard to the deep buttoning and had already been thinking about that actually. Have seen some that with a larger pattern will use buttons in an almost tufted style as opposed to the folds created by the deep buttoning. There is some curvature on this three seater. Thank you for your instruction and I have real admiration for you professionals.

I staple through the hole straight in to the board and use a nail button, the finish looks amazing ,I have been doing it for twenty years so that might have something to do with it.

depends on your idea of a good finish , nailing a button in is an awful method and it looks manufactured which looks "cheap". I know upholsterers who have been in business for 40 years they are still terrible.

How much does it usually cost to reupholster a button back armchair? If you were doing it how much would you charge?
@abu3qab8 жыл бұрын
forgive my ignorance, but I wonder why do you need to button the cushions in the first place? I assume to make it more elegant, but is that all what it is for?

thankyou. Thats a very detailed video. i was wondering is there a way to do the button holes without a drill?
