First video of yours I've seen and really enjoyed it. That was some of the most concise and helpful info on deep dropping I've come across! Gonna have to go through your back catalogue now 🙂 I'm just curious, if you're leaving the bar cod etc on ice for 5 days, how long is the meat good for after filleting, or should you then either freeze or eat straight away?
@gregswickedfishing

Awesome video and very informative! Thankyou for sharing👍 What transducer (frequency and cone angle) do you utilise for deep dropping?
@gregswickedfishing
@gregswickedfishing Жыл бұрын
Thanks heaps Ben glad you liked it mate. For the deep I'm using a 2kw thru-hull transducer which has a frequency range between 65 and 110 khz that I can choose from. I mostly run it between 65 and 82 khz which gives me a cone width of around 10 to 12 degrees which is ideal for the deep water.

Hey Greg thank you for the information it is an insight. I have been thinking about giving it a go for a while and that shows some detail. A couple of random questions if I may. What do you uses for sinkers I was thinking of making drink bottles of heavy gravel and filled with concrete. The other is the battery life for a reel. I am on a JetSki and weight is a big consideration for me Again thanks for the content kind regards Mark

awesome video just curious though what transducer are you using and what transom mount transducer would you recommend for bottom fishing at 1500 feet
@gregswickedfishing
@gregswickedfishing Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I'm using a 2kw 82b-35r variable low freq transducer. Unfortunately you can only buy 1kw or transom mount unless you get a custom one made to suit 2-3kw. Also depends on your unit if it accepts more than a 1kw transducer as well.

Hey Greg, have your tried running a topshot of mono deep dropping? I think it makes the fight better and I pull less hooks, but it depend on how fast your reel them up I guess, and how soft the rod tip is. Also what transducer and settings at you running to read bottom and get a show in those depths? I have a 1kw 50/200hz transducer and furuno unit. Do your use different weights when running two rods to avoid tangles too?
@gregswickedfishing
@gregswickedfishing Жыл бұрын
Hey mate yeah i have and one of the reels in this vid has about 30 mtrs of mono leader on it. After trialing it for a while I've seen very little benefit for deep dropping and we don't run heavy drags unless we're on structure where the bass grouper are. Running a longer soft rod certainly helps as well and slower speeds as you mentioned. Depending on the current we will use slightly different weights but I will often drop one and move the boat over more before dropping the other.
@adammcgeorge3538
@adammcgeorge3538 Жыл бұрын
@@gregswickedfishing thanks for the reply Greg. I like the mono once I hookup, but the longer the leader the more drag there is in the current, so it’s abit of a trade off I reckon.

When fishing strong current in deepwater an electric motor will not help you. You're not trying to slow the boat up against the current you're actually trying to move back with the current to ensure you lines are straight up and down with minimal belly in it.
