Just a thought on the cooking side mate, wouldn't be a bad idea to do your cook up once a month show the clean and cook up the way you like and if it's possible to wrangle your chef mate to do a segment at the end of a quick 2-5 min run-through of a cook up of the stuff you got the week prior. Be good to add a few seafood dishes to the arsenal.

I keep saying it Sammy, your old man reminds me of me and my old man and this time my Pop as well! We never wasted anything and any fish we caught in breeding season, we always ate the milts and the roe, the roe being my Pop`s favorite ! I`m sure alot of people would cringe at eating these bits but to the uneducated who have never tried it, if they are cooked right ,they are so delicious. Thanks Tez for bringing up a great lad( make sure you show your old man this comment mate!)

A trick an old, wise, pro fisherman showed me years ago for filleting big cod, so I can't see why it wouldn't work for Bass Grouper, if you should ever get another one. Cut the skin only all around the fillet. Then take a pair of pliers and grab the corner of the skin at the top behind the head. You will be surprised how easy the skin will pull off the whole side/fillet. Then you just cut all the meat off the frame, ie: split the fillet down the middle above the pin bones then come in from the top. Lift that meat out. Run below the pin bones, over the rib bones and down to the tail. Flip fish over and repeat. Believe me, it is worth trying.

If the first fish was super slimy I would say its a barrel fish...I have no idea what you would call it on your side..you usually have the strangest names for fish...what we call a grouper you call a cod...what you call a mangrove snapper you call a mangrove jack....most of the fish that resemble snappers to us you call them by a different name....your snappers are what resembles what we call a porgy...seems like the most common things we call by the same names are the large pelagics.

A lot of people get the species of Australia mixed up with the American(and other parts of the worlds) species. Mangrove Snapper (Lutjanus griseus) vs. Mangrove Jack( Lutjanus Argentimaculatus) are not the same species but are in the same family. With the rest of the snapper or Lutjanus species found in Aus, no identical species are found in the US. Our cod are in the exact same family as your grouper, yet non of the species found in Australia are found in the US(so i guess we can call them what we like😆). The porgy is the "American" name for the family known everywhere else around the world as Sea Bream. The Australasian Snapper is part of the Sea bream family (or Porgy) but in a complete different genus to that of the American common species like Sheepshead, and Jolt head Porgy. Some of your Sea Bream species look like the emperor (Lethrinus) family found in Aus eg: Grassy Emperor/Sweetlip, Spangled Emperor, but are extremely unrelated. Some of the other species that people mix up, but are completely different are: Kingfish/King Mackerel(Scomberomorus Cavalla) vs. Spanish Mackerel (Scomberomorus Commerson). Spanish are a wider bodied, bigger growing species. African Pompano/(or what we call a) Pennant Fish(Alectis ciliaris) vs. Diamond Trevally (Alectis Indica) BlackFin Tuna(Thunnus atlanticus) vs. Longtail/Northern BlueFin Tuna(Thunnus tonggol). Longtail are a longer/bigger species. Jack Crevalle(Caranx hippos) vs. Giant Trevally (Caranx ignobilis). Just an all round different fish. A really big mix up is also the "Bonito' or False Albacore (Euthynnus alletteratus) and Mack/Mackerel Tuna(Euthynnus affinis), which are basically the same apart from location and some key features In Australia we tend to distinguish between species better by giving them individual/localised names. Saying this, they all tend to correspond to the names of everywhere in the world apart from America HAHAHAHAH We do call a lot of our fish by weird names hahahahh, go to NZ tho, their names are insane!!!!!
@3dbaj1233 жыл бұрын
@@cameronsharlen-robertson1068I agree with you completely and yes im aware that some of the fish are completely different based on the genus but look very similar...im not saying what they call it is bad im just saying for us on this side of the world...(im in 🇯🇲 Jamaica btw) its a bit strange and im sure its the same vice versa...they have tons of fish not found on this side. What we call an Atlantic cod looks nothing like a grouper..😆.....everything that looks like a GT we place them in the same family and call them Jacks....everything that looks like the Australia mangrove jack we classify as snappers and as you know we have tons of different species of snapper. The post wasn't meant to attack anyone..I was just suggesting that they may call it by a different local name than what we might call it.
