After 4:35 secs you're opening black windows from where? Which client? I was able to convert .esd to .wim but this black window coming from where ? Where you're loading windows.

That's a Hyper-V terminal. All it's doing is networking booting a machine to load the image that was imported into the WDS server. Thanks for watching!

At 4:56, you say that "it picked up the server information." Where did you go to enter in that server information so that your network knows what to do when trying to pxe boot?

If your WDS server is connected to an Active Directory domain that is also running DHCP, then the PXE info will automatically get picked up. If this isn't the case, you will likely need to setup IP helpers or DHCP options to point PXE clients to the correct place. Thanks for watching!

Really liked the video, I have no experiance but what if i wanted to install a pre-installed computer, for example on that computer there is a google chrome pre-installed, and other programs. How can i do that? Because with this i install only an empty OS. Btw the video was really helpful.

It is a great video with a "real world example" the only thing I dont understand about the process is how to pc that you go to the boot menu in (aka f12) knows how to find the wds server. for example, if I were to connect a wds server in my local house network and just go to the boot menu on any pc that is connected via ethernet to said network would it automatically pick up the wds server or is there more to the process of detecting said server?

When you initiate a network boot, the client broadcasts to the network to locate the PXE server. If the PXE server is on a different network, you have to use DHCP options or DHCP helpers to tell the clients where the PXE server is. Thanks for watching!

You should just be able to turn on a new virtual machine that is connected to the same VirtualBox virtual switch. Once you network boot, it should automatically pick up the WDS server.

Danny, please how long does it take to learn anything about Servers? I'm trying to read this up and just getting more and more confused.

It really depends on what you are trying to learn about servers. I've been using Windows Server for nearly 10 years, and there are still parts of it that I don't know. You just need to start using it and configuring the features, and you will start to understand how they work and how they integrate with other features to provide more in-depth solutions. I don't think there are really any shortcuts to learning how it all works. You just need to start using it, ideally in a business environment, to learn real use cases.

Is this how you would set up a prebuilt ISO or Image of like a customized Windows and then somehow put it somewhere on a network and then from any computer on the network/domain you could technically select PXE boot and NIC IPv4 and boot to/from this Image? Like a Network PXE boot?

Yes, but, you would also use Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) to do customisation. Have a look at the below two videos. They first one will show you how to deploy an image over the network using WDS and MDT, and the second one will show you how to capture a customised image which can include any software you want pre-installed, and then deploy it. Hello Danny. I really like this cause I've trying to learn this. I added the boot.wim file to create the first image. However, I don't have an install.wim file in the source folder. What I can see is install.esd. Would this work as a substitute for the install.wim cause I can see they are of the same size. I tried to proceed with the install.esd file but when I click on browse to add the file, I don't see all the information in the sources folder anymore. I can only see a few folders and the boot.wim file which I've already used for the boot image. Looking forward to any assistance on this. Thanks

The machine you are trying to network boot from, is it a physical machine or a virtual machine on the same server your WDS server is on?
