Is there any chance you have a video on doing the coil starter assembly on this motor? It looks identical to my 8hp. I messed up thinking I could replace the pull rope without issue and now it's a mess and I can't figure out how to get the thing back together. Between the little spring that popped out and trying to get the big coil back in I had one hell of a weekend. Any tips or tricks are greatly appreciated.

Well I checked out my BF100 Outboard and it doesn't have a nut and bolt like you described. It has a bolt threaded in that hold a steel angle that physically stops the throttle from going ant further. But that piece also hold a part of the throttle linkage the goes to the engine. I may have to take it apart and see if the support piece is needed (like I think it is) or maybe if I was to cut it out a bit and see if it allows the throttle to turn e en more, or if it hits the bolt?

I have the 15hp that I just got with my skiff recently, the guy started it up for me on second pull and ran fine the time I was there, he kept his tank and gave me an extra fuel line... I took it out and it kept shutting off he said it could be air leaks in the fuel lines, does this sound like it could be the issue? I'm totally new to this so I'm trying to find some more experienced folks with the same outboard :) any help appreciated.

I would get it set up too run at home. With muffs or in a large tub. Then just start messing with stuff. My guess is it’s fuel related. I have a video of me going through carb
@quickturn663 жыл бұрын
If the primer bulb doesn’t remain firm with the motor running, it’s ether the fuel pump or sucking air in the fuel line connections. Also make sure the vent on the fuel tank is open and stays open.

Old q, but if your'e seeing oil other than through the fill/empty screws or through the propeller shaft, it's probably from the engine. It will seep down through the stem and out the small holes.

I have an older BF15 (approx. 2001 model) which after 20 years' service in stock/unrestricted form will still push my 16" Starcraft aluminum jon boat to 24+ mph (per GPS) with a minimal load onboard. Some years ago my Dad also owned a similar-year Honda 9.9 hp. After operating both engines I've observed noticeable differences between the performance characteristics of the two even though they share the same engine displacement. The BF15 has a noticeably more "lumpy" character at low rpm and requires more effort to pull start. To me this suggests that the valve lift, valve timing, carburetor size (or restriction) may be different between the two. In any case both outboards have proven to be amazingly fuel-efficient and long-term reliable!

@doingstuffwithdylan43673 жыл бұрын
@@FixNewsPlease what proof or evidence do you have of this. If Honda used the same block and carburetor on a 9.9 and a 15 horse what’s to say removing this screw will give you less motor life. I mean running something wide open throttle is probably not great for any engine but with the screw in it seem like the motor is dying to be set free like there’s more to give. A negligible difference in life is worth it to me to unleash more of this GREAT motor design. I appreciate your feed back and would be glad to look at any link you can provide to back up your theory! Thanks for watching.

Or maybe to restrict it to 9.9 smart guy!
@RobertSmith-wu1eb3 жыл бұрын
@@doingstuffwithdylan4367 it would make since to make 1 block to serve 2 purposes. The 9.9 is really designed to be used on these smaller boats and like in my state be used on motor restricted lakes ... tons of lakes in my state are 9.9 or less lakes. So having 1 motor that can do both saves R&D , manufacturing cost and reliability. Sure you "might " lose 100-200 hours of run time over the life of a motor. But time is money and 5mph for 1 screw is well worth the loss of hours for a motor you will probably get 1500-2000 hours or more out But realistically its a 15ph motor with limiters so they can sell it to a broader demographic !!!! There's a reason for that restriction, warranty. After your warranty expires, you can remove it, but obviously Honda or any manufacturer won't tell you this, because people will remove it on day one and put it back after the engine fails and claim warranty.
