I'm ok with the part of filling up the water tank with the solution, but NOT with immersing the soleplate in the tray! Water can get into the electric circuits and damage the iron, not to mention, getting yourself a nice electrocution when you plug the iron into a socket!!! Here's what I do: - I fill up the tank, plug in the iron, put it on minimum heat, let it heat up until it it ready to produce steam, I mean let the boiler suck up water from the water tank (you know, that chatacterisitc noise of the boiler filling up), then over the sink, I continuously press the steam trigger thing. As the iron is on minimun heat, it does not produce much steam, but water runs out of the holes, cleaning the steam hose and the inside of the iron itself. In my experience, it always lets out lots and lots of brown water and calc "sand". I let it run the whole water tank. Then I unplug it, let it cool down for a few hours, open the boiler screw and rinse the boiler itself several times. This works for my Philips and for my Rowenta. I also always use Kalstop phials (from Polti) in the water tank. I fill up a 5 liter container, put one kalstop phial in the water and use this water to fill up the water tank. it helps to keep the scalling up to a minumum.

NOT A BIG FAN of immersing the plate into water - there are electrical circuits which if soaked - the whole steam iron will be put in the BIN - SORRY - There are many other million methods to clean the plate. GOOD LUCK -

I would never do this as this is so stupid I would always check with the maker of your iron as you’re putting your life in danger if you place the plate of the iron in water I have cleaned irons for a long time and never came across someone so stupid to do it this way 🙄🙄🙄🙄 ALSO CHECK WITH THE MANUFACTURER OF THE IRON OR CHECK THE MANUAL ON HOW TO CLEAN YOUR IRON!!!
