When drafting the pattern for curved edges, especially at the gussets of the bag you designed in this video, how would you calculate the amount of leather you’ll need? Is it good enough to round off the dimensions to the nearest decimal point or is there something I’m missing? I usually design my patterns with Illustrator
@TeranAtelier3 ай бұрын
You will need to use the length of the gusset at the stitching line not its perimeter. Then match this length to the body of the project. With this method you will have an accurate matching lengths. Nearest decimal point is more than accurate enough when designing with leather.

@@ansulgadia Any printer should work fine. Before plotting on CAD, select layout as A4 and scaling = 1 on the viewport. Then when you print select A4 paper and scaling = 100% or 'actual'.

the side parts of the bag are rounded at the bottom, so i think it's harder to measure or make out, how long/tall the front and back are going to be, right? is there any way to 'measure' lines when they're rounded like that?
@TeranAtelier2 жыл бұрын
Set the stitching line length on the gussets equal to the length of the sides of the main body. Then when you chisel in your stitching holes with the same spacing on both pieces separately they will have the same number of holes and be the same length. I will probably make a video on this topic in the future. This is easier done on CAD.

Using CAD is something you can pick up if you practice using it. However, you can still do the whole pattern making process without a computer by using hand drawn and traced patterns which is what a lot of people do.

How do you measure a gusset size for this type of bag?
@TeranAtelier2 жыл бұрын
Basically you match the number of holes on the gusset and on the body. If the holes spacing is the same then the length of the gusset/body will be the same. Another way is a more trial and error approach.
