Very good video. At about time 9:30 you start discussing option of clearance between teeth. In fact the "involute curve shape" that is used (the set of nodes on the arc you showed earlier) means that the two teeth actually roll on each other. In Gear tooth design that shape is calculated by the Module (which you selected in the earlier Add-in script.) In essence, if you design a gear using a module value, any other gears designed with that same module will mesh smoothly with it. I thought I would give a quick overview to help understand what is going on with the gear tooth add in behind the scenes. Hope its of use.

I like to take my information from books more than videos. Do you have any book recommendations about how to design mechanical things like gears ?

Really good video. I like the way you explain things. Very organic but with math to back it up on a foundation of common sense, awesome.

Glad to see you doing mechanical projects. I think FDM printing is a good match for building functional and mechanical things. The tolerances in FDM printing aren't great but they are good enough for a lot of projects. I'm looking forward to seeing what this is used for.

Yes, looking forward to diving in to more mechanical designs with all sorts of motion links!

This is awesome, I loved this course, it is exactly what I needed and ultra-simplified the way I saw gears and their interactions. The explanation on how to quickly measure things was also super helpful!

Would you also do a video about herringbone gears?

I do not but can add that to the list

There is a fair bit of detail that goes into gear design... And yes your teeth mesh, but their profile are off!

Doing math in the dialogue boxes is always worth a mention too 🙃

Good point! That's exactly what I do in part 2. Now up!

great tutorial ! but how would i do this if my gears have a slant to them, if you get what im saying, I am using a gear that the tread has about a 45 degree angle to each tooth, but i have no idea how to make a gear rack for it

Not sure if this is happening to anyone else but when I create a copy of the gear, move it and try to rotate it to have the gears line up, both gears rotate instead of just one causing them to stay perfectly not aligned, does anyone know how I can solve this problem?

Use "Paste new" instead of just paste
