This happens with a lot of genres within fiction. Even Fantasy books have similar covers. They usually just copy the best selling book in the genre. Like, soooo many black/African books have a dark face silhouette with a yellow background because they copied Yaa Gyasi’s Homegoing cover…

I was laughing at this because I thought I didn’t own a book with this type of cover but then as soon as I check my bookshelf, the absolute horror of a truth was right in front of me. It glared at me, with it’s greens, yellows and flicks of orange. It says to me: “ why haven’t you read me yet?” Because I am deeply embarrassed. It was like I wasn’t aware when I bought it. But for the sake of a story I will definitely read it! (I am exaggerating immensely) Recommendation: A girl is a body of water

That article is great. It's even in my video. In terms of talking points: design being instagrammable isn't a new theory it's almost half a decade old and regarding examples, the pinterest board were the most prolific ones i could find. the vanishing half is the most well known out of the bunch and so lends itself well for the analysis. As for the rest of the video, it's a shame you didn't find much value in it but thanks for giving it a try anyway.

@Mario_Angel_Medina3 жыл бұрын
I'm still confused about why all those covers choose the same style. I get the practical marketing thing, it needs to draw attention in an online catalog while being like 7x10 pixels in size. But most of the time an artstyle is indicative of a genre, their logic is "this is similar to a popular thing so if you liked that popular thing you will like this too", and also some times cliches shared by those text are reflected in cliches shared by the covers, soo... what's the conection here?
@itsdivyag3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes publisher's reference best sellers and use that as a reference point and so we have a bunch of designers who might get a brief like "make it look like [popular book]".
