I made the mistake of reading Shatter Me based on the cover and first chapter, and boy did I regret that. *Spoilers ahead* Main character just got out of a year in solitary confinement? Wow, what a great opportunity to explore the trauma and her trying to reintegrate into society and - oh wait, her trauma has been cured by her having the hots for a boy she just met. No, make that two hot boys. And then wow she kinda has a superpower, but she hurts everyone that gets close - oh wait, she doesn't hurt the hot boys. How convenient. She spends the whole book hating herself, then finally gets some actual self-confidence - oh wait, in the preview chapters for the next book her character arc has been reset and she's back to hating herself again. What was even the point of all that if she was just gonna be back at ground zero for the next book? TL;DR this book taught me that 1) I do not like overly purple prose, 2) I hate love triangles, and 3) I should avoid YA books about romance. Also, I need more LGBTQ+ characters.

Some rq fun facts: - I haven't read ACOTAR but I am a mythology nerd, & there is a popular Scottish ballad of Tam Lin, in which a noblewoman has to save her elven babydaddy before the fairy queen sacrifices him to Hell, so when you said that name I went '!' - Cassandra Clare based TMI off an incestuous HP fanfic she wrote purely to spite Hinny shippers, despite being in her early 30s when she wrote the fic. So that makes sense
@gee1593 жыл бұрын
Been waiting for someone to mention this about ACOTAR! I’m Scottish and any time anyone mentions him I do a double take at Tamlin’s name. (also I thought writing a retelling of it would be cool one day but now everyone knows the name from that book and.. it’s bad apparently lol)
@manmoy41043 жыл бұрын
Finally someone else who knows the Tam Lin story. I'm not Scottish but I read the story in a fairytale book, so when I first heard about ACOTAR and found out that the story takes elements from both Tam Lin and Beauty and The Beast, I was pleasantly surprised and soon disappointed after learning what the plot (or an attempt at a plot) is like

*THIS IS MY OPINION,NO HATE TO ANYONE* I don't think THG series deserve jail to be honest. But it's my opinion, and Katniss is not a Mary Sue (she didn't say Katniss is Mary Sue but many people say she is when she is not ahhh, I think the term Mary Sue is overused) (she was good at archery because she practiced a lot in her hometown, but Peeta was better than her with his social skills and speaking abilities which helped them MANY times). I think there is a certain standard for female protagonist, people always question their personality and ability even more than male protagonist. There are many male protagonist who don't even have a training arc, and they are good at everything. Yet, they aren't called "Mary Sues". I just noticed female authors and female protagonists are held to another standard. Katniss wasn't perfect nor she was trying to be,maybe her physical skills were good but her flaws were her personality and her impulsive nature...she made many stupid decisions and in the end she was just a pawn used by a greater cause. I think THG is a good critique to propaganda and the issues with the Elites. And let's not forget the impact the series had on many protests around the world, even in my country people were mimicking the hand gesture from the series during massive political protests

From Blood and Ash for fooling me into thinking they would manage to have a healthy relationship without violent abuse and rpe so that I read the whole first book and then saying "HAHA You thought!" In the last few chapters. 😐 I dropped it after the first book but there's no going back from that so it's got to be a death penalty and a quadruple life sentence in hell.

@@itsdivyag fun fact: this comment was made while watching my very first video of yours and since then (I know THEN was yesterday, but still) I’ve been watching your vids non-stop, in fact I’m watching your ‘how to design a trashy romance book cover like Nicholas Cage’ video and you are absolutely hilarious and beautiful. You know what the G stands for? The G stands for GOERGEOUS QUEEN 👑

Finally I see someone not head over heels in love with Sarah j Maas's work, FINALLY. Trust me I feel like A throne of glass series is even worse than ACOTAR. Though, I did decide to give her a chance for the last time with Crescent City, surprisingly ended up realllly liking it.
