@@anakinswife. It’s a classic, from the little bit I read the writing is really good and the story is very interesting. Sure, it’s not a romance, but I think you should still read it ! As for romance though, I suggest Act your age, Eve Brown ! It’s the 3rd volume of the Brown series (but you don’t have to have read the other novels, it reads as a stand-alone where the other protagonists show up a bit like easter eggs) and it’s really good. The writing isn’t incredible, but it’s a fun, cheerful read, the male lead is *chef’s kiss* and Eve’s an absolute sweetheart. Plus, both the main characters are autistic and thus far it’s been really good representation. I bought it yesterday and I have to fight myself to put it down :)

I made the mistake of reading Shatter Me based on the cover and first chapter, and boy did I regret that. *Spoilers ahead* Main character just got out of a year in solitary confinement? Wow, what a great opportunity to explore the trauma and her trying to reintegrate into society and - oh wait, her trauma has been cured by her having the hots for a boy she just met. No, make that two hot boys. And then wow she kinda has a superpower, but she hurts everyone that gets close - oh wait, she doesn't hurt the hot boys. How convenient. She spends the whole book hating herself, then finally gets some actual self-confidence - oh wait, in the preview chapters for the next book her character arc has been reset and she's back to hating herself again. What was even the point of all that if she was just gonna be back at ground zero for the next book? TL;DR this book taught me that 1) I do not like overly purple prose, 2) I hate love triangles, and 3) I should avoid YA books about romance. Also, I need more LGBTQ+ characters.

Some rq fun facts: - I haven't read ACOTAR but I am a mythology nerd, & there is a popular Scottish ballad of Tam Lin, in which a noblewoman has to save her elven babydaddy before the fairy queen sacrifices him to Hell, so when you said that name I went '!' - Cassandra Clare based TMI off an incestuous HP fanfic she wrote purely to spite Hinny shippers, despite being in her early 30s when she wrote the fic. So that makes sense
@gee1593 жыл бұрын
Been waiting for someone to mention this about ACOTAR! I’m Scottish and any time anyone mentions him I do a double take at Tamlin’s name. (also I thought writing a retelling of it would be cool one day but now everyone knows the name from that book and.. it’s bad apparently lol)

Finally someone else who knows the Tam Lin story. The fact you have to explain why it isn't incest in the end is bad. The lack of incest should never need explaining, it should be obvious.

From Blood and Ash for fooling me into thinking they would manage to have a healthy relationship without violent abuse and rpe so that I read the whole first book and then saying "HAHA You thought!" In the last few chapters. 😐 I dropped it after the first book but there's no going back from that so it's got to be a death penalty and a quadruple life sentence in hell.

A book that deserves jail is Jane Eyre for multiple reasons. I still have war flashbacks of reciting "Rochester is a Byronic hero" and the damn split tree and the fact that he locked his wife in the attic (she deserves better) and nearly everyone in my old class was sick with Jane by the end of the book. I never want to read it again.
