Hey Jeff. One of your Canadian subscribers here. We are doing okay. I retired so no job to get laid off from, so that is good. But I can watch my retirement funds taking a nose dive, so that is bad. But we are both healthy and other then the social distancing part, it really has not affected us too badly. I miss seeing my kids and grandson, but if this is what it takes to keep each other healthy, it is what we shall do. I went to do some groceries today and I did notice that there were more shortages then I have seen in the past couple of weeks, not talking about TP here lol. When we are allowed to get a bit of a normal life again, I might have to go find a part time job. Going to be lots of hurting people out there. I'll go work for cheap, help them out and get a few bucks in my pocket at the same time. Heck, they could even pay me later once they get some money flowing again.

Damn it Jeff. I had a 10:00/22 split ring blow off and nail me in the kneecap many years ago. My a-hole puckers every time I see someone air one up. Got a bad case of split rim PTSD. Then you had to insert the "Boom" in the video. Nearly sh*t myself.

This took me back to the 1970's when we used to survey in feet and tenths of a foot. Man, when we went to metric it made life so easy ..... calculating in tenths of a foot is just so damn difficult in comparison. I can't believe imperial measurements are still in use.

Thanks for the great video mate ,Mr Paydirt my nuts went up into my stomach ,which is getting further the older I get ,but when your messing with your grader tyre ,I know you have done countless times ,but a good mate of mine was a firefighter ,and was at the port of Brisbane working on a massive fork lift ,that moves shipping containers that had caught alight ,and the split rim and tyre gave away as he was standing nearby ,and was killed instantly in a horrific way ,so everyone please treat them with the respect they deserve ,ironically his name was Jeff as well ,rest in peace mate ,cheers from down under.

Excellent, excellent video sir. You caused me some anxiety when you were airing that tire up to reseat the rim/o-ring, tapping on it with a hammer. I recalled back when you and one of the boys were working on a scraper tire, and seeing the energy released when it finally set... Just makes me a bit uneasy watching it. Regarding commenting on "how I/we out here in the youtube world are doing". I am very fortunate/blessed to be able to live way out away from a large population, and can pretty much do what I please when I want, and don't have a small business that is shut down in the middle of the biggest economic boom in our history, so I cannot complain. I won't "foul up" this comment section or your channel with my political frustration(s), but sure hope folks are taking notice of some things. Jeff, that’s great! you just don’t get instructions on how to do things like that. Most of us just end up hopping on a machine and figuring it out. That’s how I learned to run excavators, dozers etc. haven’t done much on a grader, but always wanted to learn. Never understood why they had so many adjustments, and articulation. Thanks for a great explanation. Hope things pick up for you. I hate to see good people losing money for no fault of their own. If I still had my plane, I’d fly into your airstrip and say hi.

Great job on the irrigation ditch I do street reconstruction and sewer and water here in mn. Company I work for started 2 weeks ago lots of work have heard of some cities canceling contracts with some outfits my son works pipeline he has been working to so we feel very fortunate. Nice to see someone cut grade without GPS a lot of the younger guys reli on it too much when the GPS doesn't work you get to see who the real operators are. Stay safe and healthy 👍

As an aspiring blade hand I thoroughly enjoyed this Jefferson!! There's one guy in our county shop who would know this and in 7 years I've never been able to work with ner watch him run grader other than a distance, and he's about to retire!! As for the kung-flu........I've been very fortunate to be in the "essential" personnel folder during this process and have been working like business as usual. But we can't have two people in the same pickup, use the same equipment daily or as much as possible, no morning crew muster for job duties, and of course the social distancing measures still apply. Most all new construction in Central Oregon is still booming like Bend had exploded in the early 2000's with growth so it's good to see my local economy still thriving I guess.................even though I'd rather they were leaving lmao. However they've really jacked with the fishermen by closing all boat ramps as with campgrounds because you must "gather" to use them. Also there's talk of not having county fair this year because of this situation (as many othere states, counties, provinces, and countries) and I can't help but feel for the 4-H and FFA kids who can't sell their market animals now since they would've just purchased if they had beef critters to show, maybe even kids raising hogs depending on their respective fair times. My wife showed me a real cool post from Facebook that someone had posted a suggestion to all that if you are a person that purchases your meat on the hoof for butcher.........to consider making your purchase from a local 4-H or FFA member in 2020 who was also greatly affected by the kung-flu plague of intentional distribution...........I mean pandemic, dammit did I say that outloud.................everyone stay safe and stay healthy, I guess this KZbin thing nowadays is pretty handy for quarantine victims to keep up with their best good channels and finding out some new ones

We are from NZ ,re the coved 19 our government shut all borders and put us in lock down three weeks ago I believe other week we will have constrution and loggers etc back working ,schools partly open no hotels restaurants cafes open maybe other Two or tree weeks . I wanted to thank you first for the grader work. It's by far my favorite piece of equipment to see working. As for fairing during all this shit going on, which is what we call it here in TX. Not Covid-19, That damn beer virus, freakin bat soup flu, or "how to kill an economy in three easy steps". Nope, just "all this shit going on". We are doing okay. I own a small contracting company, which is to say I hire crews to do small jobs between their typical larger jobs. I get some of the most capable people who show up on time and do the exact thing they promised. Had to shut that business down of course, but I'm keeping in contact and hopefully, we can stir some business up by June. My wife, however, is an ICU nurse and spends her workdays treating COVID patients. It's very risky and even more stressful. At this point, she's my only concern and legit reason to lose sleep about, as there will always be another way for me to make money. Well, I'm maybe concerned about my dog who hasn't fetched a bird all year, so no duck soup for us this year. Even the mailman is starting to look good to her Lab mentality. He might ought to get himself a faster truck. Any day now I expect her to show up at the door with part of a blue uniform or a tire from a USPS truck. Thanks for asking Jeff. I hope you guys are keeping the cabin fever at arm's length. Well, two arm's length. I'd ask for more 1693 videos or rebuilds on the service truck, but I'd really rather you be too damn busy moving dirt to make those other videos.

I run a heavy haul trucking service in south central kansas and quite frankly it sucks right now. I have a 1956 D7 CAT that has once again saved the day doing some terrace and waterway work for a large farmer who wanted the work done before he planted corn. I cut ditches the same way only i use a CAT 112 that was new in 1947. Love your channel look forward to your videos each week.

Hey Jeff! Great vidja. Lets just say I would not be able to do an irrigation ditch w/a grader. Hope you and the fam stay safe. I live in MD and have been in social distancing for 5 weeks. I'm retired now so checks still coming in, but have been "emotional". Kinda like PTSD. Guess just seeing the losses is effecting me. I have been trying to talk people outta going crazy and such. It's a mental thing. Just going to buy gas you gotta figure it might infect yah. I'm not afraid to die, just dont wanna be there when it happens....Hospitals here are not even busy. I think the Task force are doing real well considering the magnitude of this problem. They really dont know allot of things about this virus but are learning daily. Really pisses me off that Pelosi and friends are holding up on PPP. I think 30% of business may go bankrupt. This too shall pass. Stay positive. Told my Dr. a script for sex 2x.week would cure what ails me and he said "good luck w.that".

Jeff here in Rochelle the virus had very little effect. The farm land around here gives everyone a lot of room. Today two inches of snow. Yesterday temp 17 degrees. I worked on Kim's Cat 3406C giving some fuel. Now it's back on like it was before siding you back in the seat. Very good explaining cutting a ditch.

I put in a drainage ditch that looked similar to that, with a little 440 John Deere trackloader. Dug down level & flat, to a certain depth, put it to the side, when I got the bottom "close enough" I brought material back in, tapered to the center with one track running on the high side. Wasn't perfect, but it did stop water that ran down the hillside from running across the guy's new garage floor. I though a diverting berm, farther away from the building, would have been easier, but he didn't want that. All done by eye. "Get it close enough, the water will make it's own way" was his idea.

It all makes sense now I was confused from your first video of this project. I thought it was a drainage ditch, not an irrigation ditch. That ditch of ditch deal is wild, you water rights states have some crazy stuff in that regards. I chuckled at your 1foot in 100 ft fall we don't have any ground flat enough for that. Most of my ground runs like 10ft in 100 and mine is flat compared to many. lol Hope this week is better for ya!

Good (early) Morning Jeff, Man between this video and the one with the IH and the ditch plow; these brought back a flood of training memories of my youth with my Dad and Grandfather running ditches here in Chandler and more specifically Scottsdale on our cotton, watermelon and alfalfa operations. I learned on an old Cat 12 grader. Those ratcheting control levers would wake me up big time in the early morning. I've got to be honest, I did a so so job. It really is an art with science all wrapped up together. My older brother and Dad were truly "Cat Skinners". Great video. Great video Jeff, I'm amazed by what actually goes into something as simple as an irrigation ditch. And to answer your question, since I'm a mechanic and auto repair is 'essential industry', I'm still going to work almost like usual. It has slowed down quite a bit but still have some stuff going on. My wife is a teacher and has been home since the beginning but still working. Virtual schooling started this past Monday and seems to be working ok. (San Diego County) Have a great weekend sir!

Im flatbedding with COTC we seem to be staying pretty busy even my twin and I occasionally go by on the 15... I live near Riverside Ca and he lives in Saint Helens OR. Our Granddad was a roadbuilder/cat skinner in southern Oregon he did most of his roadbuilding by eye he would be impressed said that he always wanted to learn on a grader but was happy on his D8

Hey Jeff. Great video as always and nice pointers to building a ditch. I am currently back home at the farm in north eastern Alberta, Canada continuing trade school over the net. We were going to get sent for work terms come next week with Finning Cat however with OPEC and Covid-19. Things have gone pretty south for work. Oil is in the tank so not much for iron running or needing to be fixed. So Finning is firing up another 2 months of online learning for us on engines. Glad to have that going as many trade schools have just cancelled classes for other apprentices. If she really gets bad I will probably head back to trucking for the summer to keep busy if there is still no work from our dealers.

Enjoyed this video and you speaking about bottoms, I just love a nice looking bottom. My wife is still working as she works in the food industry (for some reason people still need to eat) and for me well I am a senior citizen so nothing has changed there. We will know on Monday if they are going to ease some of the restrictions down here in NZ as we have had total lock down for 3 weeks which is working well. The daily new cases had dropped down to 8 yesterday. Anyway stay safe up your way bro

Ok I have never seen anyone cut the centreline that way. But the results speak for themselves.. I would've liked to see how you took your levels and where you and how you set your lazer up. I figure you got your fall when you graded the top of the ditch before you actually started. This is definitely going in the keeper file. Thanks Uncle... Learnt a few tricks (PS. Slowly clearing out the pantry of the bad stuff to start the big eating change. Thanks for the links too.)

Great video, Jeff. It would be good to use in a high school ag class where they teach about large machinery. Perhaps a series of all the equipment you use. Bulldozers, scrapers, loaders etc. Educational for the young people, and profitable for you. In any case, I learned a lot.

Some good tips here I'm putting in drainage ditches with a 9ft 3pl grader on a 310hp jcb fastrac Trying to get the sharp point out of the bottom of the ditch because we drive though them Not much change to life here in West Australia for us farmers They closed the state boarders so early the virus has had nearly no effect, 550 cases in a 1 million square mile state Still allowed to send freight over the boarders they just stopped the non essential travelers Sent 1200 sheep on a truck cross country last week

Working at a Cat dealer, we are designated essential services and have stayed busy. But things are feeling a little slim for this time of yr. Equipment isn't rolling out of the yard the way it did the last couple seasons.

I own an "essential" business (autoglass repair and installation). We are still going, still keeping my employees paid. It was slow for a while but picking up now. I'd love to fly into Anderson International next time I'm out there in Idaho...

Me and the wife 7 years retired,been self quarantined for 7 weeks,our kids do our grocery shopping,I have been off property to get self service gas,atm and drive up for drug store,cabin fever is a concern.you have a good eye for ditching with that grader,enjoy your humor and video's,keep them comming,hunkered in North East Ohio.

That was very impressive grading skills! We are holed up here in Florida at least until the end of this month maybe until middle of the next. Been off work but working some from home. I did have to go in for an emergency today for an hour or so. Other than that, we will be ok for a while. Hope things get smoothed out over your way soon... Hope to get out to see ya all this summer...
