when i get to the step on second 8:04 where you select 'ctrl+i' to inverse the mask, this doesn't work for me. the mask stays white instead of turning to black and it doesn't cut off the excess part of the smart object...I don't understand what I'm doing wrong! :(

You probably are not deselecting the cup before Inverting the Mask. That is why Ctrl + I is only affecting the Cup area and not the Black zone.

Hi, i have a problem at 8:01 . The part where i have to Ctrl + i doesnt work. The design is still outside of the dotted area. :( Please help.and the mask is still white not black.

Before pressing Ctrl + i , Deselect All. (It doesn't matter what method you use, Make sure that INSIDE MASK, Cup is White & Outer area is Black. FYI: Ctrl + Backspace Fills the Color which is selected as Background (in my case it was Black) and Press Alt + Backspace to Fill Foreground Color which is White in my video.)

Make sure you are filling that "INSIDE Mask Thumbnail". You can use Giant Brush to fill backs & whites quickly. No need for alt key combo.

Be sure that you are on the mask layer (not the object layer). Then, you can color the mask just with brush tool. Use white and black colors to do that.
