How to design speaker enclosure, basics | 2 things to get right in enclosure design

Good design is vital for successes in a speaker or subwoofer box performance. This first video about SpeakerEnclosureDesign goes into basics of air volume and vented box tuning. There is two tips first to help to measure box volume and second to measure vented box tuning and then using that tuning to design different size port for your project.

Depends on your driver parameters. You can calculate the response using this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHqUknyff9yNbbs Also you need to convert box dimension into inside (subtracting wall thickness) air volume (liters).

hey sir , have you ever learn how is the chamber size measured if there is a port but not the cylinder port ones ?where is the limit calculation of the chamber ? until mouth port or howit should be . thanks

Chamber volume is only the net air volume inside of the enclosure, so when you are measuring the cabinet volume you should subtract whole volume of the port and it's walls, what ever shape it is.

I have 10" woofer ( 120w ) , 6" middle (zipp) and a tweeter. I know the T/S parameters of woofer and middle speaker. What is the perfect measurement of 3 way cabinet and how can i calculate the appropriate volume of the cabinet ? Is there any equation or some thing ? Please help me .

Follow this tutorial: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHqUknyff9yNbbs or download and use WinISD Put T/S parameters of your 10" sub in there and calculate different sealed and ported enclosure options. Calculate also how the midwoofer works in that same enclosure, if the result is bad, and you don’t want to have deep roll off HPF on your midwoofer then make sealed enclosure only for the mid inside the cabinet and make overall cabinet bigger.

Does taking a woofer and putting it in a different shaped box with the same internal volume affect the performance of a woofer? If so how? P.S. I ask this because I have thought of building a internal space spear shape for my next audio build.

Different dimension can introduce resonances within the enclosure, example 50 cm deep enclosure can cause peak at about 340hz, shorter dimension higher than that. Many times, those are not a problem for bass region, but one thing to avoid with subwoofers is choke points or striction inside of the enclosure.

Acoustic wadding is pivotal too, it can literally double the effective size of the cabinet and is hugely overlooked in speaker design. Long fibre wool is probably the best

I have some large rectangle 6x9 speakers with the following specs (from what I can tell these are the ones that matter) Sensitivity: 91db Frequency response: 30hz-25khz (separate small 2 way grill mounted mid/tweet from passive xo) Fo: 45.272hz (is this the same as Fs?) Vas: 31.137L Qms: 2.444 Qes: 0.630 Qts: 0.48 What size sealed box would these need? Or if I go ported what size box and port? I have a six channel amp that I intend to power four of these 6x9 and one or two subs. The 6x9 will be slightly underpowered, recommended 100w minimum 200w RMS /600peak the amplifier is capable of 4x70w + 2x100w in six channel, 4x70w + 1x200w in 5 channel or 2x140w + 2x100w in four channel continuous power

Fo is same as Fs, dont worry about underpowering them more speaker surface area is gonna be louder and more sensitive. Qts seems to be nice and low so that they may work in smaller enclosure and maybe even ported, Vas is bit on high side, that then makes box bigger if you want lows out of those 6x9. @@BoarAudio I intend to use them in a vehicle, slowly building up hardware. I have four pairs now, picked up another two sets during the week. I am now having a dilemma though, sell my existing amp which is a nice but rare sq amp clarion 1106ah/ addzest a-4800 from the mid 90's and replace with two more common 5/6 channel amps or buy another matching amp (very unlikely to happen).

@@BoarAudio yes they will eventually go into a car. I picked up another two sets this week for four pairs total. I'm now in a bit of a dilemma, I don't know if the amps will run 2 ohm as I can't really find more than basic specs online, the rates power on the unit are at 4ohm It is s very nice but very rare clarion 1106ha (aka addzest a-4800) so it is unlikely that I will find another easily if it doesn't support 2ohms so that I can run the qb69's in parallel. I may have to sell the amp and get a 2 ohm stable amp or two matching 4ohm 4 channel amps, I have a vibe slick a7 that I could use to power my sub instead.
