Hey Rich, thanks for making this video. I am new to wood framed construction and checking posts for bending is something that even Donald Breyer does not show in the textbook. I will check my posts for bending in future projects. Keep up the good work man.

Glad it was helpful! and yeah this was a newer check for me as well. I'll have to open up my Breyer book and see what they do.

Hey Rich. Just wanted to let you know that I recently took and passed my Civil Structural PE exam. I referenced your videos several times while studying and felt that they helped out a lot. So thank you for all the help!

Can you make a video of some of your structural engineering books.

Great work Richard. A video on torsion caused by earthquake or wind forces in irregularly shaped or asymmetric wood frame buildings would be nice. Keep up the good work!

Excellent video. I also think the check for combined axial force and bending in the tension post was great attention to detail. I'm curious why we don't check for plate crushing under the compression post? It seems like that reaction is likely to control for a stud pack braced about the weak axis.

I agree! when your forces in the end posts get large we should def be checking plate crushing

When you look at le/d1 and le/d2, wouldnt the larger of the two control? so wouldnt it be 8'/3"?

@10:24 I think you have it backwards. You have Fb' < fb but Fb' = 3,600 psi and fb = 1,677 psi You are still correct that bending capacity is greater than bending demand and is good.... right?
