Great players won't play that opening with black. White often gets the initiative, more space and the bishop pair for not a lot of compensation

​@@stephenmeek5757 Great point Stephen! However Mio often shows us how this kind of "off beat" openings can be very powerful and surprising. I've heard him mention how Gurgenidze system is a tough system to play against couple of times!

@@uguugu98 yes I'm sure most openings have hidden subtleties and can be dangerous against the unaware. That particular system is very decent for white though, I have an FM friend of mjne that used to get excellent results against GM Arkell in that line many years ago. Arkell later changed and stopped playing it

All these variations is why I just play the Classical Variation. There are nice novelties in it for black that are very simple, like an improved MacCutcheon French sometimes.
