Last weekend I found a whole set of plates that were kind of a yellow color they didn't really glow that much at all but they were radioactive only cost me 20 bucks for the set

Cool pieces..best way is use a scintillator to detect it .but uv light works too..both would be good .

If you don’t have a black light, i recommend just not getting the really dark tinted glass,

I found all kinds of clear glass that glows green along with some that glow pink.

That glass is about 100 years old. But you find those in thrift stores every once in a while

It doesn't have uranium-235, so it is legal. some of them aren't actually too old, but the newer ones are meant purely for decor because they do let off radiation that isn't safe if you keep drinking out of it

no UV isnt at all the best way : you should use a geiger counter or better a gamma spectrometer. Many modern glass can be fluorescent. Only uranium glass is radioactive.

it is the quickest and most effective, under 395 nm Only uranium glows.

Depression glass is the same thing They made it up into the fifties

@@zeusafoos1369 possibly, could be yellowcake adding a more yellow color. the green isnt even from uranium, its from iron oxide. though it is pigmented from uranium. blue uranium glass also exists

Pretty safe. It's enclosed in glass so alpha and beta particles are trapped and as long as you don't wear the glassware as jewelry 24/7, gamma radiation is minimal.
