Great video Kim…. I am Dr Lisa Martin Wiedeman, Erich & Ida’s daughter. It is so nice to have your video footage for me to save. I’m fortunate to be able to see the collection any time I want and I have a few pieces myself on display in my home illuminated in a bookshelf.

Thank you!!🥰🥰 I love sharing my passion and my hobby with others online, and it is a way to document the progress of my collection and my knowledge. I have found that there is a wonderful glass collecting community on KZbin, and everyone is so helpful and encouraging. It's so sad to see beautiful collections get recycled or broken up when the younger members of the family don't want to inherit them. My goal is to create a beautiful set to be passed down one day and to make many memories with

I just recently started collecting uranium glass a few weeks ago and have about 6 pieces. Three we bought in an antique store and 3 we found at thrift stores such as Goodwill. It’s like finding a diamond when I find a piece in the thrift store!

Oh I know!!! I like to call finding pieces in a thrift store "hunting for it in the wild" haha😂. It's so rewarding and such a blessing. I can't believe you were able to find uranium at a Goodwill, never lasts on the shelves around here long enough for me to snag it!

I have always loved vintage glassware, but had never heard of Uranium glass until I saw a teacup and saucer under blacklight at a local antique/consignment store... .fell in LOVE with it, and have purchased a UV flashlight and will stop at every Goodwill/Salvation Army/Thrift store/Yard sale/Flea market I EVER drive by. Obsession is an understatement!!! Thank you for this tour!!!

I took a ride up there today. Unfortunately, the museum is closed on Sundays. I was blown away by how much glass was for sale in that shop! I picked up 2 Uranium Crackle Glass Plates, 2 Uranium Custard Glass Plates, 2 Vaseline wine glasses and a very radioactive piece of Orange Fiestaware. It's only 30 minutes up the road for me, so I'll be back soon for more glass. Thanks again for the video.

We have what I believe is a Fosteria Yellow Vaseline, ruffle, crinkle cut, uranium bowl, . We also have a starburst centerpiece plate. The bowl is pretty on top of the plate and the colors match perfectly but I don't believe it's a paired set because there's no groove to hold the bowl in the plate.. As beautiful as this is, we might try to sell them. I don't want to be a bother but if you should feel inclined, I'd love to briefly talk to you about to find out it's value. Oh my gosh are you for real!? I did not know that it was that much radiation! I was told that it had insignificant amounts, now granted someone probably wouldn't hold a plate to their face for 2 hours, but that sure doesn't sound insignificant! Thank you so much for the information
@hntjd
@hntjd Жыл бұрын
Not sure they would be comparable. X rays are composed of powerful ionizing electromagnetic radiation which easily pass through skin and body tissues. U-238 most commonly used in uranium oxide as a colorant emits very very low levels of alph, gamma and beta radiation. Most alpha and beta radiation is blocked by skin, while almost all emitted radiation is blocked even by a simple pane of glass, like in these beautiful display cases. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and US EPA have studied the risks of uranium glass extensively- Ultimately concluding that these collectables pose very low or no risk, negligible compared to background sources.
@stephenB49

First, that's not true. Why would someone hold it against their face for two hours? If you just need attention, get a dog.
@jontompkins1844
@jontompkins1844 Жыл бұрын
@@stephenB49 you really should try reading something other than comments. Obviously no one would hold it to their face for two hours straight,but if you are dumb enough to actually drink out of it you are indeed holding it to your face for seconds many time a day. Early uranium glass can have up to 25%uranium, Wich if you actually could do math you would find it would give you a dental exray dose in around 70minutes. Again,no body is going to hold it to there face for that long straight,but taking swallows all day adds up. There is also the matter of leaching. If you left your food in a dish in fridge all night you would certainly receive a high dose. Do yourself a favor and research before you say something stupid again.
@jontompkins1844
@jontompkins1844 Жыл бұрын
@@kimscollectibles7247 it can have a uranium content of between 2and25%, the early 25%stuff if definitely not something you want to eat from. Because most collectors leave it on the shelf,it's pretty harmless. The average human gets radiation daily from the sun, but a fun fact is most people get their highest radiation dose from bananas!

@Kim's vintage obsessions, sweetheart, I believe that I have the largest collection of Anchor-Hocking's Manhattan.....came out in 1938, the year my parents were married....... display it, but never use it, unless I am having a soiree, and need something for veggies and dip.....I also have many pieces of Park Avenue, Manhattan's baby sister......in dark green......I believed that Block Optic was produced by Hazel Atlas, but you proved me wrong......got tons of that, packed away, below the stairs, so thank you.....

@@valeriejewell2015 oh my goodness! That sounds like the collection of my dreams! That's so special that your collection has a history with your parents. The stories behind antiques make them so much more valuable. I love Manhattan and Park Avenue patterns, they look so geometric and futuristic to me

i'm sure she did as good a job as she could, but i'm pretty sure that small piece she picked up's demitasse and NOT a shot glass. (she picked it up by a small handle?) what do you think.

I've never heard of a demitasse glass. Thank you so much for the information! I'll spend some time looking into them to learn more about them. Also thank you for the identification of the other piece, its amazing how much I can learn from people like you in the comments section😊

@@kimscollectibles7247 hey, kim, a demitasse is a sort of fancy word for kinda saying small/tiny coffee cup, and the reason i believe what you had's demitasse is because it appeared to have a handle on the side rather than just being the regular cylindrical shape of a shot glass; in other words the piece appeared to be a (coffee) cup rather than a glass. demitasse were/are used for fancier coffee drinks like espresso and such. also, in case i didn't mention it before, i enjoyed your video very much. i've been collecting (my house looks like a messy antique shop), and really mainly kitchen items since that's where i spend most of my time, for about 50 years, and i absolutely loved your enthusiasm.

Is the pricing on their glass pieces for sale reasonable or overpriced? Antique shops are either one or the other.
@kimscollectibles7247
@kimscollectibles7247 2 жыл бұрын
I completely understand what you mean! I would say that if you are buying a piece from Erich (the uranium glass collection's owner) then you may have to pay a pretty penny depending on the piece. He is an incredibly knowledgeable person that watches Ebay sales a lot, so he knows the market value of just about every piece he owns. The items at the other booths seemed reasonably priced, though.

ah that sounds familiar. thinking about copper cookware (- and how it can leach into acidic foods like tomatoes etc..) ^had to look it up - the last part is just a direct reference but copper pans are mostly (- lined with a non-reactive metal) *just another reference from the same search result
