I love that you explained this, getting straight to the point and still able to convey the necessary information. Thanks.

Or, alternatively. Use a level marked at exactly 100cm. Measure the height of the fall at the bottom of the level. (Say 25 cm) Anyone can divide 25 by 100 and get a percentage fall. (25% in this case)

But that requires the metric system, that would be way to hard for Nebraska! Hahaha

I would argue you probably need a 3 string line of a few metres to get a better measurement, most lawns undulate

Millimeters, centimeters, the metric system...get outta here! The Who would sound like this: I can see for kilometers and kilometers... I can see for kilometers and kilometers and kilometers and kilometers and kilometers...oh yeah!

what if I do it more than 100 inches away will I still get it correct?...

Your kidding. This is an April fools joke.

So so much wrong with this. Use twine and a string level. And make it tight. Also doing start on the ground. Go up an inch or two. Just subtract from the other side. Holy

Much quicker to build an A-Frame with a spirit level mounted I'd argue

I measured my slope and I got 26 inches when leveled so I divided it by 100 and got 0.26. What is this means? I have a side yard that slopes down from back yardd home foundation and porch to street fence..I ran a string from high end (porch) to low end fence, leveled it and measured 26 inches from fence grade to string. I wanna level this area to add concrete slab. I just been thinking what would be the best way, maybe take out dirt from high end to level it or do the same and reuse soil for low end or just fill in low end with dirt to level it out as much as possible..

It means your slope is 26%

not accurate with that flexible rope for a base. and what about leveling more then 10 meters away? ;) there is much more simple, clever and accurate method

What? Is this video for real? I mean, its an actual training video. I wouldn't attend that university.Using a level such as that will give an inaccurate reading because you are having to judge by basically floating the level with your hands. Hands can't stay perfectly still. He should use a line level (a small lightweight level that hangs on the string, hands free).

Calm down Russell. This isn't a university course. It is the Extension department showing home owners how to estimate slope in their yard.
