When I insert the ball mount into the hitch receiver tube, the pin holes don't line up. If I back the ball mount out a bit, the holes align; the pin goes through no problem. Feels sturdy. Is that ok? I just dont know if it's necessary for the ball mount shaft to insert all the way to the back of the receiver tube 🤔...
@miamihitches4 жыл бұрын
Depends on which hitch receiver you have. If you have an 1-1/4" receiver there's is only one hole you can enter. If you have a Draw Tite 2" then you will enter the hitch pin in the rear hole. The ball mount does not have to go all the way to the back as long as you enter the hitch pin in the correct hole you will be fine.
@matthewbeckwith6634 жыл бұрын
@@miamihitches thank you so much for the response. It's a 2" receiver tube and the ball mount has 2 holes. Given your response above, I then should enter pin the second hole. By 'second' hole, is that the pin hole closest or farthest from the ball?

So can you mount the ball on either side of the tongue bit (that’s goes into the hitch), to make it either a riser or lower ? Like are they all reversible ?
@miamihitches Жыл бұрын
Depends on the type of mount you purchased. If you have a part #, I can let you know, but typically it is shown on the information sticker where the tow capacity is located.

@@miamihitches Thanks for the quick reply. It’s a standard Hayman and Reese hitch, I think the part number is 284471.

When I put my boat trailer and my suv sags by 2 inches in the rear. Would it be reasonable to increase the hitch height by the sag amount when the trailer is on?
@TheBUGZNTA Жыл бұрын
Probably already figured it out but yea. My work trailer sags my truck alot. If I did this method I would get 6. Actually only needs 3.5 to be perfectly level

If you are looking at the ball receiver hitch part, not the ball, how do you tell which size ball goes into that? What I mean is, if you go look at a used trailer you've never seen before, you see that big coupler piece that connects and rests on the ball, and I realized that its a whole different game to look at that and try to figure out which size ball goes with it and its hard to eyeball if you just came up and didn't know for a trailer that you'd just looked at. What do people do when they don't know the size of the receiver? Thanks.

What size hitch do I need for a 2017 Ram 1500 when pulling a uhaul 6x12 trailer?
@miamihitches2 жыл бұрын
Hello AJ, any 2" hitch receiver that could fit your ram should be rated at least 6,000lbs. A 6x12 weighs 1,920 lbs empty and maximum load is 2,480 lbs. So the max it could weigh is 4,400lbs. So any Class 3 Trailer hitch that fits your ram should work.

2" hitch receiver, 2" inch drop mount with a 2" trailer ball should work. For the drop of the mount, it is best to measure it but a 2" inch drop mount is a good place to start.

Question: my receiver hitch measured out literally 1/4th (0.25) of an inch from the trailer I will be towing. So I need a hitch with a drop of 0.25 of an inch. Since I can’t possibly find a hitch with such a small drop what should I do? Just get one of those tri-ball hitches that have zero drop or rise? Thanks!
@miamihitches2 жыл бұрын
Yes. A triple ball does not have a rise nor a drop and since you only need to drop 0.25 of an inch it's your best option.

The top of my wife's receiver is 13.5" and my receiver is 14.5". The kayak trailer each of us will tow is 14" so what ball mount rise or fall will each of us need? Thanks in advance.
@miamihitches Жыл бұрын
Hi Ernie, to determine the appropriate ball mount for your wife's vehicle, you can simply subtract her vehicle's height from the trailer's height, which will result in a difference of -0.5 inches. This means that a ball mount with a 3/4 inch rise will be suitable for her vehicle. On the other hand, for your own vehicle, you will require a ball mount with a drop of 0.5 inches, meaning a ball mount with no rise will be suitable for you. Need anything just ask. My truck will drop about 3-4 inches after attaching my trailer which means it is not level. Do I need to raise to 3-4 inches to level the trailer?
@miamihitches4 жыл бұрын
Raising it to 3" or 4" will level it but there are many things to consider. 1. Make sure you trailer is properly loaded. Excess weight at the front of the trailer can drop your vehicle more then it should. 2. Make sure that your vehicle suspension is not wore out. Adding new shocks or springs can prevent excess sag on the vehicle. 3. You might need a weight distribution Hitch to level you trailer out. There are several ways you can go about this, if you need more help please call us 786-563-5875 and ask for Edwin.
@Mmmyess4 жыл бұрын
Once I lower the trailer onto the ball, the truck's suspension compresses and lowers, changing the distance between "A" and "B" in your video. Hm....
@miamihitches4 жыл бұрын
If the suspension on your vehicle is dropping because of the weight of the trailer you can add 1/8" height (A) for each 100 lbs. of tongue weight on the trailer. This will help account for the additional rise or drop needed when selecting a ball mount.

The issue that I have is that my bottom of my jack from the trailer will scrape if I go over a bump or driveway. What will happen if i raise the my trailer by a couple of inches and place it on the ball of my truck? Trailer won't be completely level but it will be higher to where my bottom of my jack won't be scrapping. I tow a 7x14 cargo trailer with a 2014 Nissan Titan 5.3L V8
@miamihitches3 жыл бұрын
I would consider replacing the jack with one that allows you to pilot the jack from vertical to horizontal. This way the jack will not scrape and the trailer will remain leveled. Traveling with a leveled trailer is priority for safety and comfort. However, if you're not able to replace the jack, elevating the height of the ball will give you the clearance you need. You want me make sure that the trailer is not to far off the level height. That can lead to more road bounce and add additional stress to the hitch on your vehicle.

What about the amount of squat in the TV once coupled to the trailer? Don't you have to take that into consideration?
@miamihitches3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you do want to consider the trailer tongue weight when selecting a ball mount. You might find it helpful to add 1/8" height (A) for each 100 lbs. of tongue weight on the trailer. This will help account for the additional rise or drop needed when selecting a ball mount.
