Disappointing. The video asserts that cross multiplication is the easiest way without giving a reason, thus perpetuating the belief that mathematics is based on mystical tricks. If someone is to work with ratio and proportion, you would expect them to understand what proportion means in an intuitive way, such as with scale drawings, and to be able to work with fractions. Then they can be introduced to operations with ratios and proportions, including why cross multiplication works (by solving an equation of a/b = c/d or dividing a/b by c/d to see if the answer is one; in both cases, you can see that the diagonally opposite numbers end up being multiplied). And cross multiplying is often the best way, but not always. For example, (a) 3/13 is clearly not the same as 12/13; (b) 16/19 is clearly not the same as 16/17; and (c) 42/86 is not the same as 27/39, since 42/86 is less than 1/2 and 27/39 is greater than 1/2.
