Great question! Curly bangs can absolutely work, it’s going to depend a lot on your hair texture and the products/technique used to style them. Tough to say without seeing your hair but as I said they definitely can work well.

Yes! Better to over explain than leave people clueless... I've been a stylist for 10 years, and it took me a long time to figure it out... balancing the face, but it was all visually, and I leaned more through make-up than hair. This is more mathematical...geometry really, which is how they teach us to cut hair, so you think they would apply more measurements and angles to the face shapes as well, not just a picture and brief definition of the shape. It almost confused me more for some reason. I love it, thank you!!!

Ok, math is hard and yes, I'm late to the party but if you could please answer this question I'd appreciate it as I've had varying opinions from people who know me (I won't spoil as I'm curious as to what your best educated guess is and of course, I won''t hold you to it)! If you were sorting me into a face shape house at Hogwarts, which would it be? Here are some basic facts: Forehead: 6," Cheek 7," Jaw 6," overall length 8." Neither round nor square at the top cut more a cross b/t a cowlick and a widows's peak and a solidly round chin. Blessed with generous eyebrows and about three fingers b/t eyebrows and hairline. Naturally wavy hair (long) with shorter chin length pieces in the front. LOVE to wear it in my face (or very much framing my face and neck) to conceal ye ole starting to age neck and jawline. Lucky to have a lot of hair albeit the texture is fine and has always been way finer in the front my entire life. I do like to "style" the front pieces semi-straight as I don't like them wavy/curly but the rest I go with wavy 95% of the time. Live in NYC and the two stylists I work with have two diff opinions and my dermatologist agrees with one of them. However, no one has actually measured my face. Thank you in advance!

That’s a great question about Bob links, I would say the length being a bit longer than your job but the main thing would be to create volume up around the temples and in the top to draw the eye up and accentuate more of the cheek structure cheekbones etc. Does that make sense?

Jennifer Aniston has a long face-especially around the chin. I think her amazing color draws any attention away from her face shape. It looks so much better than the old 'Jennifer' cut with all of the layers. Also, I've heard the part- a center part lengthens the face and a side part widens the face, So, Justin, what about parts? That’s not uncommon at all. Most people are combination of 80 few different face shapes. In your situation I recommend going less by your specific face shape and more by what attributes about your face you want to accentuate were you want to take the focus off of. Does that make sense?

Interesting that I stumbled on this because I am shopping for glasses and in the process of helping me I sent my photo to the customer service woman and she immediately said my face was round. I knew she would say that and did not argue with her but the thing is I have been quite long faced and considered an oval all my life but have recently gained weight which has plumped my face up considerably. So, I think it is not unimportant to mention that being overweight people assume you are a round face because the extra fat on your face obscures your true face shape. But, what do you do? I mean, for all intents and purposes, whether temporary or not, it looks round now, right?

This is a great question! There are two ways I like to approach determining face shape and what to do with a haircut do to fix shape. First is it terminating what your fish is, then it’s about determining what you like about your face or dislike about it. As you age, gain weight, lose weight etc. your face shape will mildly change or dramatically change. That change could also be dramatic quickly. So having an idea of what you like about your face will help. The short answer to your question is yes, regardless if your face has been one shape in the past I would go off of whatever shape it is currently based on your weight gain weight loss etc. Does that make sense?

I have never been able to figure this out. I have a slight widow’s peak. Smallish forehead and not a strong pointed chin/jawline. I have had almost every variation of a bob you can think of, and they all look decent on me. Now i have long and straight, which looks good when I make it wavy and give it volume. I always thought I must have OVAL, but this makes me think maybe I am Heart. Hmmmm….

I think I have a somewhat oval face. My cheekbones are the widest part of my face. BUT my face length is still a bit shorter than my cheekbones. Cheekbones definitely the widest part on my face, probably a half inch wider than my length. Thanks for the video. Second place is diamond but my chin isn’t as prominent.

It’s tough to say without seeing your face, but from that info it sounds like you’re a combination of a heart shape or a diamond shape that has a little bit of length to it. I would really need to see your face shape with your hairline etc.

Hi Justin! Could you please do a video sometime on how to choose which hair color would be best if you have Cool Undertones? I have yet to find the best hair color for myself. I’m 62 yrs old, have cool undertones & my hair is about 50% grey now. My natural hair color is medium brown but I’ve been a blonde for years but would like to go darker now but still have blonde highlights you can really see. Thanks!!

Great question! And yes I’ll definitely be doing a video about color soon. With that said a simple and quick answer for you is to match your skin tone with the underlying pigment of the color. Meaning it doesn’t have to be a certain level i.e. blonde brown black etc., you just want to match the undertones of whatever level you pick with your skin tone. Does that make sense?

I think i have a diamond shape although i do not have a pointy chin, and i found the woman with the 'square face' to have a rather rounded and soft jawline, I'm pretty confused because i said yes to most diamond questions and no to most square questions yet i have a pretty strong jawline still my cheekbones are more prominent..... ugh i will never find out

You’re on the right track. It’s very common to have a combination of multiple fish shapes. Most people don’t fall 100% intoone. You can take what you know about your face now and use it to help you guide yourself to what haircut will work best for you. If that makes sense.

I think I'm dimond shape. My forehead is 6inch, my face width is about 9 1/2 inch. My jaw line is 8inch and my chin comes to a point. Oh and the length of my face is 8inch? I think that sounds like a diamond. What do you think?
