IMHO the speed of the vibrato should match the tempo of the music being played. Though SR may disagree...plus, if you make the bends (or pulls) BIGGER each time will aid in keeping the string alive. Start with small bends, increasing the distance (or bend) with each repetition. Also, have you noticed the Django BENDS strings upwards but vibrates downwards?! (except for the high E and possibly B strings). Worth checking out! Thanks CvH!

can I do this Vibrato on Archtop with flatwound string?
@johnrothfield61266 жыл бұрын
I also was struck by tcha's flattened fingers!

you missed the "violin style" vibrato, the one where you roll the finger back and forth lenghtwise on the string. it has the unique feature of making the vibrato go both above and below the in tune note, works great on ballads

Vibrato is a great place to correct tempered tuning problems and to play whatever microtones you hear. "Andolan" in India.

Do you find changing position and stopping horizontal motion for vertical vibrato interferes with left hand technique vs horizontal vibrato used on violin?
@ChristiaanvanHemert6 жыл бұрын
+James Reese Not really, on violin many more notes are colored with vibrato than on guitar.

Christiaan, how important is it to play gypsy jazz on a gypsy guitar? What is the brand of the guitar you’re playing?
@ChristiaanvanHemert6 жыл бұрын
In the beginning not very important. Just use what you have. If you want to buy one I recommend an Altamira model M. Contact Tommy Davy at Tommy@DjangoGuitars.com for more info!

Christiaan, do you have a model M? M-01, M-10, M-20 or M-30?
@ChristiaanvanHemert6 жыл бұрын
I have an M30 but the Model M is also excellent and only 650 dollars. I highly recommend it!

What gauge string do you use? I use 11-s and it's really hard to do good vibrato. As in my whole guitar will move and i will have to force it to stay still, but that way i dampen the vibration in the guitar body and it doesnt ring out that good.

Ingmar Laan I use 11s too! Don't worry about your guitar shaking, that's normal. Stochelo's guitar shakes like crazy as well as does my guitar. Remember that a good vibrato takes a good while to develop, just stick with it and spend 10 minutes a day practicing it in isolating. You will eventually get it. It took me a long time too!
