Dude, your work here on youtube is unique. Most voice coaches are afraid or ashamed to show these exercises the way you do. It makes me think they don't trust or don't know their own voice well enough. You, on the other hand, show us everything, exploring all of the bounderys of your voice. I have evolved my vocal technique a lot with your classes. Your content is very valuable. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart.

You are seriously incredible! I have looked for THIS (without knowing it was this) for YEARS! "Freeing" the voice is actually a really psychological thing and I've always been too worried about what my neighbors or people around me would think if I was making loud strange noises (and honestly, also afraid it would sound ugly)... and that has seriously created a mental block in my voice. But the laughing combined with the air control and pitch is genius! And the way you do it is so encouraging, it makes it fun and I don't even care what my neighbors think anymore when I'm doing it together with your video on the headphones. THANK YOU FOR THIS! REALLY. from the bottom of my belly :)

Hi, Chris! I am from Russia. You are my favourite male voice now, what I heard on Soundcloud was awesome! Thank you a lot for your videos - they are so helpful! You know a normal, standard warming up does not work for me. I can spend 30-40 minutes doing scales and all the standard warming up stuff but when I finally start to sing a song I realize that my voice is not prepared for this song. And what I usually do is re-warm up specially for the song in a different way. I do not know if someone has the same problem. You know I already tried to warm up my voice in the way very close to what you show and it actually worked for me, but as a singer - beginner I was afraid to damage my voice and did exactly what I was told to do - warm up normally. It has changed for me after I have watched your videos! Now I feel free to experiment and the best off all I start to FEEL my voice. Yesterday after watching your video "How to Warm Up For True Singing Freedom" I hit the C (2nd octave) using my chest voice. I couldn't believe it. But I made it really. It was a clear bright sound with no tension at all! THANK YOU!!!

Oh i found the video on how to start to really work in my low and middle voice. When we are holding back air we are more supported or loose cause i feel with the contraction a lot of air can escape too...that's why the punchs in our belly happens gently like a good laugh and not a bad cough right.
@davidhenriques90485 жыл бұрын
great insight Chris, this was actually a very important find when i was discovering support, i found out about it while casually laughing with friends and later coughing with a flu, thinking to myself how it was the same mechanism, its a great way to find how breath support works. I totally agree with you part of it its being in tune with your body and how it naturally works. It also kinda feels that way when youre lifting dumbells lol, that abdominal squeeze

You know what I love? Just giving a little background... I’ve been singing for quite a while now... years, even... and like... a year and a half ago I felt the need to make my techniques better, as I started to want my voice to sound better overall and have a durable voice in general. By studying techniques (with various KZbinrs - including you, for the past few months), my progress went up by A LOT... really quickly my voice became waaay better. I am, however, struggling a lot with some techniques and having to study hard so my voice doesn’t completely wear out (specially nowadays, where I’m often forcing my “throat” to make the sounds I want). Now, here’s the part I love: EVERY TIME you post a video, it seems like it matches my thoughts of what I need to study and practice to be better. I thought “wow, I really need to get better with my “mixed voice”, so I can support it better and have a good sound”... one day later, you post things on how to make the “mixed voice” better. A couple of days ago I was like “I’m so focused on hitting a higher note that I’m forgetting that I need my “chest voice” to be better as well... I feel like I, unnecessarily, force it too much and it doesn’t sound as good... my support needs to be better, I’m sure” and... look what you posted now... EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED. What I really want to say is... your videos, in general, are what people need. You teach people on how to sound HOW THEY WANT TO SOUND... how to express their own selves better. That’s what shines in your channel! 😁 I really do appreciate the effort you put into these and the knowledge you put out. Thank you so much!!!

Chris, When I study singers who inspired me like Lou Gramm, you can hear the punch and extreme inhalation kick he developed. As if the diaphragm not just descends, but plunges down freeing his voice. This will sound crazy I know, but some Rock singers seem to "vomit" their voices, I don't know the right words to describe it. The voice is so free there's no sensation of throat, just this rich, resonant tone.
@sebarhap5 жыл бұрын
Long time no see Bob. Remember me from TMV forum? I'm Xamedhi. I have a band now called Klauzer, with 3 singles out. You can look for the band here on KZbin. As for your question, I have been learning growls and metal screaming and I have learnt that... One of the most important muscle group for voice production, power and vocal health is the gag, or vomitting coordination. It activates a tremendous amount of vocal muscles and makes the larynx work like hell, and also, it's imperative to use great abdominal support to maintain the activation and the healthiness of the coordination. With this said, it is very likely that all the big and powerful belters have this muscle group so strong and coordinated that the voice is healthy, powerful and metallic ( tons of squillo ). That "vomitting of the voice" feeling you get, is probably produced by the freedom of the energy they release. Having that great of a support and also, the state of freedom they achieve ( no fear of damaging anything, just basting it out ), lets these singers we know have insanely powerful and expressive voices, even when the sound is not "correct" or technical by more lyrical or "teacher standards" Just see how metal screamers use their belt range and how high they extend their chestvoice. ( Obviously the ones with good technique and vocal health, haha) I must add that Ive been struggling with a vocal injury for a couple of years, and the moment I started excersicing the gag coordination for growls and screams, my pure falsetto started closing and taking a very delicate sound, like what you hear on muse songs. This has helped my air leaking falsetto get to a new level I have never experienced. And as you know, having a perfect closing falsetto, translates into a potencially awesome mixed voice like Lou Gramm's high range. This is a lot of information, and probably none of this answers your question, haha, but I havent spoken with you in a long time and felt the urge to share my new knowledge and experiences hahah
@sebarhap5 жыл бұрын
The way techers talk about the diaphragm is always on exhalation and abdominal power, but they never talk about the strength and ability to inhale and to retain air. You need muscle antagonists to balance one muscle groups actions. If you Master inhalation, then you can have complete control over dynamics. I have met a lot of people that can't hold air in with an open throat, they can't keep the diaphragm down, an Open throat and sit there with an open tube for a couple of seconds. And this is a silent problem for a lot of singers. Overpowerful exhaling motion can make the throat become stiff and unable to navigate range. Crazy power, yes, but not too much freedom. This is where the SLS comes in to balance belters. Their low volume excersices make you control your diaphragm, and have more freedom when handling the larynx. But then after You get that freedom and range, You can just blast it out and tear the paint of the walls of. Freddie Mercury is a great example of diaphragm control. Singing lullabies and pioneer heavy metal at the same time haha

@@SharmarkejamalVEVO it would be better if you know how to play piano. But there are lots of stuff here in the internet where you can practice your ears.
