Awesome! Thanks! I tested the leads with my Supco megohm meter... tested good. I'm glad you clarified the heat pump board terminal connection.. I was stumped. Turned out my first theory was correct; thermal protection. Fan was overheated. The capacitor wires were reversed making the fan turn the wrong direction. I also need to verify the microfarad requirement for this unit. Never know who changed it last and just went with the closest thing on the truck. I love KZbin training videos! Subscribed..

I bought a clamp meter and checked the dual capacitors capacitance and its reading what's on the capacitor plus this is a new one I bought the other day just wanted to see if it was bad. Next if im even doing it right since I cant find on KZbin to show what wires to clamp for amp draw or what to set my meter to so I set it to 40A and clamped each wire that went to the capacitor as it was running. 1) Thick yellow one that goes to the compressor was 5.78 2) Fans black wire was 1.7 3) Fans yellow wire .82 4) Fans brown wire 1.51 5) Red wire coming from contactor to the (C) was 6.58 Now it took about 5 minutes to check these wires so no it wasnt hot but it was warm and I checked for oiling ports and there are none so I cant do that. I want to mention I had to spin the blades to get it going and Im not sure if it would have on its own if I waited but they turn slowly and eventually get faster untill it does run. On a side note I spun the blades to see the resistance and if it spun and it did but with resistance then after running for the 5 min the resistance was gone and it spun better. Motor Westinghouse 350358001 322P859 230V 1PH RPM 1075 Tech Specs: 350358001 322P859 208/230V 1PH ETU42 RPM 1075 1.5 3 3/16" x 1/2"SHAFT CAP: 5 MFD/370 VAC.CCW ROTATION The motor is 4-7/8" in diameter and if it was bad what replacement motor would fit because the westinghouse one is obsolete. Thanks!

What is with the red/orange ground wire.???????? I know that you have a lot of critics, but as an electrician and I see a ground wire that is not bare or green an alarm goes off in my head that says danger. In the electrical field orange represents 480 volts " ouch " . I do enjoy your videos, they are very informative, as I see some of the comments on your board, there are a lot of people that have little or no knowledge of electric or air conditioning. Have a Great Day and keep the vids coming.

I agree with you green and bare are universal ground color it keeps the next person who works on your stuff a headache from trying to figure out all the bullshit, as well as color coding the rest of your wire keeps people safe and may even save alife. As an electrition its such in my ass when someone doesnt color code or even try to label a wire probably. Low voltage is different, it has all kinds of funky color but whats not low voltage needs to be labeled

I have an old lenox ...that's worked fine and did up until the time I shut it off last year. I turned it on yesterday...and noticed that the temperature wasn't dropping in the house...then I remembered that I didn't take the cover off of the unit...The fan isn't running. Did I burn it up having the covering on. Was probably on an hour before I remembered. what do you think is the expected cost to fix it; if that's the problem.

Will the fan motor be extremely hot if the capacitor is the issue? The unit is "buzzing" however the compressor is not running. The fan motor is VERY hot and not spinning.

The blower fan works but it will stop for 10 min, I have no idea if the motor is going out or just dirty.
@btknowlton10 жыл бұрын
If a motor shuts off after running for several minutes and then automatically restarts after a 20 to 30 minute "nap" the most common cause is a weak capacitor. Replace the capacitor and see if this solves your problem.
@jeffdodson8168 жыл бұрын
I have seen video showing you can jump start the fan by spinning it yourself with a ruler or something long and thin. If you can get it spinning this way this lets you know the capacitor is bad also, right?

The majority of the time this is correct.

If fan runs at a greatly reduced speed after a 'push' of the fan blade is this a bad cap or a bad motor?

At 49 seconds you say "If the capacitor is good and the unit has a heat pump then. . . " in which case the video goes on to describe what to do next. HOWEVER, you never come back and tell us what to do 'IF THE UNIT DOESN'T HAVE A HEAT PUMP". So I give this video a rating of 1 star for being incomplete and poor grammar.

Exactly, we don't have a heat pump so I need to know what to do in that case. How common is a heat pump in the south? I bet not very common.
@dannycalk80517 жыл бұрын
In the South when heat pumps first come out everybody was having them installed so yes they are very popular, but also more expensive that is why you don't see as many. I had one installed at our home but it didn't last all that long the reversing valve froze up and I by passed it and made a regular unit out of it. Works great now, and I can't tell the difference in the electric bill at all. Have A Great Day

You are not as good as your tools, if you are a bad tech you can only blame the tools. So if you have bad tools you have something to blame it on.
