Thanks Jim, I just bought that exact year and color CRV for my wife. I just bought the complete suspension kit from Moog and glad I found your video. The shop told her she needed EVERYTHING replaced in the front suspension but after finding your video the inspection process revealed upper ball joints. I am going to swap the upper arms and do the tie rods before alignment. Thank you very much.

Hi jimthecarguy, I like your video, very educational but I have a tip for you, don't tighten the bushing screw yet until you lowered the wheels because it will damage the bushing as force will apply when you put the wheel down.
@GoodoldCT905 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim; New Upper ball arm,need to loosen two bolts up, put weight of car on arm and then tighten up. Previous squeaky bushings. I did the same as you did on my Accord. Like your videos.
@GaryWold6 жыл бұрын
I looks light you tightened down the UCA to the body before you finished and put the car on the ground and settled it's ride height. You may have premature bushing failure as a result. I would loosen the two UCA pivot bolts, jounce the front end really well and then re-torque.
@stevelozano95235 жыл бұрын
I noticed that too. Tightening of those UCA bolts are to be tightened after vehicle is down and suspension is settled.

Thanks for the info on how to check out the front end for issues. It is hard to find videos on such old CRVs as the 2001. Also, love the accent. I definitely have a bad upper ball joint on the left side. Obviously why the clunking I get when making sharp turns/going over bumps. Is the upper ball joint permanently mounted to the control arm to require a whole assembly or can it be removed? Also, my stabilizer links seem non-stock, as they have metal grease nipples coming out the ends, on the opposite side of the nut, and they rub right against that strut fork...which is really weird. What are good part numbers for both the upper ball joint and stabilizer links? I have another problem that I am unsure of, it's a constant light whomping sound on each rotation of the front left wheel. I had rotated all my wheels out with the 5th wheel and it happens regardless. Would that be a wheel bearing problem? The ABS light also comes on and goes off quite often. I understand the clunking being from the ball joint, but not the constant whomping sound that is so persistent regardless of driving condition. It gets worse as I turn, and about equal while turning left or right.
@kolvir738 жыл бұрын
Usually you need a press to get the ball joint in and out so it is easier for the home mechanic just to replace the whole control arm.
@jimthecarguy8 жыл бұрын
You right about replacing is easier.
