In 1971 I had some money for a motorcycle. Went to a dealership and found bikes in my 1300 dollar price range. There was a 500 Triumph scrambler and a Honda 750 on the showroom floor. In a fit of utter stupidity, I road off on the Triumph.

My Dad bought a new candy garnet brown CB 750 K1 in June of '71. I was 13 and this bike was like a dream. The looks, sound and power had me mesmerized. I would stay in the garage for hours cleaning it. Right next door, the neighbor had a BSA 650 Lightning. The guy down the street had a '69 Rocket Three. I had a Kerker 4 into 1 on my '78 KZ1000 too. Just a great sound! It was really satisfying until I had to do my first oil change and that header blocked the drain plug. I believe Kerker implemented a 'swoop' in later years to get around the plug.

Hey BJ. Those carbs don't look that bad, relatively speaking 😁. Three years ago I had to restore a set of Mikuni BS 32 CV's from a barn find Suzuki 750 that had sat with ethanol gas in the bowls for twenty years. There were just thick blobs of semi-solid green goo left in the bowls and the brass jets had all eroded away so even the screw slots were almost completely gone. No saving those ones. Thank the M/C gods for suppliers like Jets R Us for supplying the right replacement parts for old carbs!

That sure brings back memories, I had that same bike when I was 17. Of course back in the 70's making chopper/bobbers out of them was all the rage. I had mine painted a black pearl (no emblems), I put on pull back handle bars, four into four drag pipes, hog wheel, 8" over fork tubes, bobbed the front fender, painted the cylinder fins wrinkle black, ect, ect. Haven't thought about that thing in years. Thank you!

The 750s were actually a very popular platform for choppers. Ive revived a 70s Jammer framed CB750 chopper and that was such a cool bike. I see these come up for sale about once a month with extended forks and similar mods that have just been sitting in sheds for 40 years

Just shared some of my long term runner experiences on part one but forgot to mention the tendency of the original oil filter bolt to get its head chewed up. My dear old now departed dad welded a nice big steel nut on my original and an aftermarket version became an essential buy in those far off crazy 70s. 6000 miles plus on my CB550 saw the indicator switch contacts wear out too. Oh’ by the way, the first item to get ditched was the indicator beeper.
@joeswinsick89772 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking about how irritating that beeper might get. On the other hand, can't even put a number on the amount of bikers I've seen running a blinker for miles and miles after a turn. Luckily my KTM has a self-cancel feature or I'd be in that boat too. Perhaps we should bring those beepers back?! Very forward thinking of Honda from a safety perspective!

Exellent work, i really enjoy your channel! Just a suggestion, maybe change the carb boots also next time the bike is in to compliment your beautiful carb work. Loads of vacuum leak potential with the old hard ones.

Thank you Tom! They get replaced when they are hard. These were still plenty good as I remove them and get them warm to soften them with my ultrasonic cleaner. Works great and revives the rubber.

Wow, a 72 CB-750 , I’ve been riding one since it was new, the metal flake orange and even the stock grips :) I can never sell this bike , even after 68,000 miles.

Man, wouldn't I love a CB750 like that! Not a good idea of course, I'm 69, and I would need someone to take care of it mechanically. And ... I'm not ready to die yet, I live in Thailand. Thailand roads ... But jeez, I admire that bike!

@@BrickHouseBuilds great, you're younger, you still loved it I'm sure! In the sixties, when a teenager, I had a Honda SS50, scrambler like moped. In the same period, a guy in my city had one of the first CB450 Hondas. He crashed it into a farmer who was crossing the motorway on his moped ... Back in the day that was possible! Hondas has a place in my heart ... In my midlife crisis, I had a Yamaha XJR1200 SP, what a beautiful piece of machinery that was.

I may have missed a couple of tune up points; was the ignition timing set again with a scope? you mention plastic main jets.......were they changed for regular type? (plastic jets were used in tuning kits way back in the day). very much enjoy the diag process and the fixes made, not just replace everything!!!
@BrickHouseBuilds Жыл бұрын
Hey Malcolm I actually have a part 1 to this where I show the diag process. Definitely check that one out to answer your questions. I simply reused the plastic jets

Those airbox boots are always petrified. You might be able to get them to fit on the carb spigots by heating them up but where they mate with the airbox will be loose and they won't seal properly. You can still get them from Honda and other sites also and they're under $15 per boot. Surfing Ebay might get you some cheaper. I recommend that you get a sealed battery instead of the one with the caps, they seem to take sitting idle better and you don't have to worry about them leaking acid.

In my experience the manifolds just require a bit of heat and are good to go. I heated these up using my ultrasonic cleaner and they were fine. When they are bad it's pretty obvious with cracking and such. I use many OEM parts suppliers daily so good there.
@scottpastere9404 Жыл бұрын
DOT 3 is water soluble and just putting it in your sonic cleaner with some Dawn dish soap would have them as good as new. You'll have to run it in the sonic cleaner for as long as it takes, but they will come out a good as new. I recommend turning the heat up on the sonic cleaner though.

A set of new points, with condensers for a CB750 are $25 from Amazon. Back in the 50's when I started working on cars we didn't have electronic ignition. Car got a tuneup every 10,000. Given the age of the bike I would be changing all the wires of the ignition systems. I never liked being stuck on the side and I never liked half ass mechanics
@BrickHouseBuilds2 жыл бұрын
You didn't watch part 1 Im assuming. I dont like cheap Amazon parts. They make points files for a reason. I filed them and proved great spark and saved my customer money.

You might want to swap out the front brake hoses, as they tend to collapse internally and act like a check valve. Holds residual pressure after you release the brake handle. And braided stainless are sparkly.
@BrickHouseBuilds2 жыл бұрын
If it needs it this season the customer will let me know. Main focus was getting it out of hibernation. The job took a bit longer already so I needed to get it out and other jobs in. He is very local. Also not doing stainless as the purists will burn my house down

Thank ya! I wouldn't say they often have problems its more just age related at this point which can be said for almost any 40 plus year old bike
