I bought an 84 Camaro with a 350 engine already put in and I've been struggling to find parts for it untill someone told me my engine might be from an old Chevy truck I'm so glad I found your videos man there are none out there on Chevy 350s and i think my car might have the same 350 as yours the engines look identical but sum parts on my 350 are either older or more advanced . 03:35 Incorrect: Sensor resistance does NOT go up as pressure goes up. Sensor resistance goes DOWN as pressure goes up. As this resistance goes down, it allows more current to flow through the pressure gauge. This increase in current causes the needle deflection to indicate a higher pressure. 06:23 Incorrect: Zero resistance is NOT an "Open"; zero resistance is a SHORT, which provides maximum current flow. When you see zero at the 20KΩ scale, you have your scale set too high to see the actual resistance. You should turn the scale down to find out what the resistance really is.

The 78-87 trucks used sending units designed with a positive pressure coefficient, meaning the sender's resistance is directly related to pressure. So in this case the video is correct. As pressure increases, so does the resistance.

Some sending units are either open to begin with or closed. Hard to determine which one it is needed testing a bad sending unit. Unless you have a working one in your hand and can do a comparison.

I've got a 79 Formula. My oil pressure gauge does the exact same thing. Being GM it's most likely the same unit.

I've. got a 1987, chevy surburban R20 4x4 350 throttle body 400 trans. my problem is I notice every time I check the oil every time before starting I would always be a quart low or a half a quart low I took notice of the right back side of the engine was wet and oily then I looked under the truck and notice was a mess of oil all over the bottom of the oil pan all over the starter and on the exhaust y pipe and all over the bottle of the trans pan. I, thought it was the right back side of the value cover gasket but looking forward in to it I found the problem. correct it was the sending unit that had gone bad so I bought a new one I have not irreplaceable it yet but I'm going to this weekend before driving it again. This sending unit has a single blade hook up. I, was wondering how does the sending goes bad I asume when one goes bad correct it starts leaking I guess it goes bad were it's put togather at. Lol you're dog snoring that's cool. now after I fix the problem I'm going to have to degrees the bottom of the truck and power wash it. no more leaking oil and no more buying and keep adding oil every time. No, it's not connected to that issue. The issue you have could be a number of things. Ignition timing, carburetor issues, worn cam lobe, worn or jumped timing chain.

That truck makes nice sounds when you first cranked it and it was idling . I had a 77 c10 for a few months and got t boned do don’t know if it had a cam but it was a mild cam if so, it sounded similar to this . I used to think it was trying to say something when it was idling and I translated it one day ,yours is saying it to,it’s saying,”barbecue”, but pronouncing it like bobacue bobacue bobacue ,I was on some hardcore drugs back then so maybe it was just me.what do you here your truck saying?

If memory serves me right, some had both. The switch was normally down by the oil filter.

I’m having a lot of issues trying to locate mine. I do not see one anywhere around the backside of my block nor under wondering if somebody hadn’t tried to bypass it if you can help me at all that would be great. I’m just having a lot of issues trying to change the sending unit out because when I put it in drive or or reverse. My oil pressure goes to zero I’m running at 14 pounds when I start it and let it run but the second I put it in any gear the oil pressure drops out. I replaced oil pan gaskets rear main seal valve cover gaskets everything is properly torque down. Still have an oil pressure issue, I really do need some help. I am new to older vehicles and willing to learn.

Not sure where else to have you look. Behind the intake is the usual spot. There is a port than can be used just above the oil filter, or just behind the water pump

Grille isn't for sale. The zinc is good for the engine, but it isn't gonna raise the oil pressure. The thicker oil will. I run the Rotella 15w40 in my trucks.

What made you think of the oil pressure sensor before the gague itself?

It was just a guess with the way it was acting. I also like to start at one end or the other of any system. I got lucky and started at the right end.

@@SquarebodyStuff Yeah, well my oil pressure can't be as low as it reads. You start it up it really just has a very small bump. The old sender is okay so I'm going to try a new gauge. The engine is running cool. I have a 350 with a 160 thermostat and it runs between 160 and 180. Its old but still has good power. The panel gauges I have had to install an after market water temp gauge and the fuel gauge is just out. If the voltage is low at all it may be shorting out somewhere. Last resort I'll try a mechanical I guess.

Not something easy for me to diagnose through text. The first thing to check is the fuses, then from there find a wiring diagram and start tracking down the wires and checking that system out.

you don’t wrap the the threads. They need a good ground. How much that matters with that small amount might not matter. But I don’t wrap them. Excellent video and very informative

Done it this way for 20 years and never had a problem with it grounding correctly. I also have never had one leak.

I don't like to use Teflon tape. Most new units have some sealer already on it. If installing a used one, use a good liquid Teflon or rtv.
