How to diagnose bad engine motor mount ? Mazda Mazda6 Mazdaspeed6 Vibration

Thank you very much for your video. I am suffering the same problem you described with engine-mount and central screw. They sold me a (new) bad engine-mount because when I´ve finished the work, the engine support was sitting on the rubber zone of the mount :-(. Now, I'm tired of going to store and ordered the part and bolt from Mazda. It is more expensive but the success is sure. I'll tell you when I install my new mount. Thank you again.

Best place to go is AutoZone they guaranteed them for life...I've already replaced mine twice over seven years .. Each time it cost me nothing if I didn't go to AutoZone I wouldn't have that and they fail just as easy from other places or dealer I'm about to do it a third time that's why I'm here in the chat ...It will cost a little more initially but you'll have that warranty..The first time I did that I went to the dealer and got dealer mount ..For some reason these mounts fell easy even from the dealer

Great video thanks. Did you find replacing this single mount fixed the vibration problem? Ive bought all 3 mounts but the other 2 look more difficult so thinking of replacing this one first and hoping that fixes it. And when did your vibration occur? Mine was when slowing down at a red light, and also at complete stop it would start vibrating then stop once driving off again.

Yes engine mount is the most likely to fail first among all, I would suggest try replacing one by one. By book, they recommend to replace all at once, due to age & load distribution, but its a personal choice to replace one or all. I only replace one which is bad.

Hi. Found the video very informative thanks. Can you tell me if you suffered a clunk or knock felt up the gearstick when pulling away? As this is the noise I have with a slight I ration inside the cab around 70mph I’ve changed the gearbox/chassis mounting and had the DPF refitted with a new crunch washer . Thanks

No I never felt the clunking or knocking sound with shifter or gearstick. Have you checked your CV Axle?

@@AllHandsMechanic no but recently got through MOT with no faults. It’s only on take up when pulling away no noise over speed bumps etc just take up. I’m looking at engine mountings to see if they could be the problem. Will look at axle too thanks

I've been trying to figure out where this deep rumble was coming from the last 10k more. Feel so stupid after seeing that gap between the rubber. I thought it was a seal of some sort when it was the top peice pressing into the rubber and the rubber was being forced away and up the edges of the metal piece. My autozone seems to have this. Guess I'm watching KZbin tonight to get my mind well versed. Thanks again👍

A lot of things I'm reading say you should replace all the mounts but might not have to. The longer it was driven the more likely. I have at least 10k. You think I'll be OK just doing this one and then if I need to do the others? My concern is I don't want to fix this one and then have the other 2 be bad and cause the new one to break before I fix those 2.

@@redbeard3852 Yeah just replace this one. Chances of others being broken are rare. Autozone mounts come with a Lifetime warranty, so you will be good for life as long as you own the car. NOTE: As I mentioned in the video, make sure to take the top bolt with you in the store to make sure the threads are right in the new part.

@@AllHandsMechanic yea about that bolt situation. I actually found one that fits kinda... only NAPA auto had the motor mount 30 minutes away from me and they closed in 35. So I rushed out and when I got there he said it was 15 more than the one that website said exact fit for. One was call with bracket one without. It had an extended top and flat rubber peice on top. They were definitely the exact same size and I can't find the one the website gave me that was different but I suspect there was a recall. It seems the one from the site which fits with the original bolt, seems to not be hydraulic. I have no doubt it is an exact fit but couldn't find any instance of non hydraulic being used. Anyway good tip on the bolt, they found me one for free 50mm. Only thing was and I might have missed you say it.i had to run to Depot to get the washer. The car had to be lifted at least 5 inches from how bad it was. I haven't started it yet though. I broke 1 of the 3 bolt the 1 that has the nut and comes from the wheel well. I'm about to start searching for how it comes out. Thinking it's only a few threads and I could drill from the wheel well and then find a match. If you know let me know. If you want I can send you a picture of the mount that fits the original bolt. ( I bought it just in case since I was there 2 minutes after close and they were still helping me) thanks again.

@@redbeard3852 Hope you were able to get that broken bolt out & successfully replace the motor mount. I think I found the other mount you mentioned. www.autozone.com/external-engine/motor-mount/p/pioneer-front-passenger-side-motor-mount-614431/1074643_727925_4222 Yeah, it seems it will fit just fine too, and is definitely an upgraded version. Seeing those two rubber wings on the top bolt kinds of explains it. So if the top bolt housing breaks again, the engine will not be sitting on the mount making metal-to-metal contact but instead, it will still have rubber molding in-between to dampen the vibration.

@@AllHandsMechanic o wow, I couldn't find it anywhere online. Even the NAPA picture was a bottom angle that you could barely tell it was there. As for the bolt... o my..lol... I couldn't find it anywhere online. So I didn't know how it came out. I thought maybe I could get it out from the wheel well... no. It's 1:30 AM and raining. I finally see hope. I was able to (after loosing many new drill bits) was able to get a 3/8 drill bit all the way thru. Even that didn't get rid of the head if it in the wheel well. No time and can't make to much noise to get rid of it. Maybe tomorrow. I had bought a bolt earlier today but that's slightly bigger than 3/8 so I forced it in there anyway by ratcheting it I'm there and hopefully the threads won't be to messed up and I'll be able to get It's matching nut on it. That'll hold fine until I get a proper bolt. The 2 from the engine side look a little bent anyway so I'll get those to. Work in 5 hours so just need it running lol. I'll be finishing once it slows down, getting to heavy ⛈⛈⛈

hi .. thanks for the video 👍 I have the same car model, but the problem is that the car rusts back and forth only when I'm on holidays, the problem only starts after having driven 1000 kilometers. if there is a queue start the problem ☹️ I put on 1 Gere rusts the car. usually it never does the engine does not rust either. think they have the same problem as yours or coupling problems. 🙏🙏🙏

If you are talking about back n forth jerking issue with your car, I don't think its related with engine mount. Bad engine mount causes constant vibration in the body which you can feel even when inside the car. I hope I am wrong but your problem seems more to me a transmission related issue.

Hello. My engine mount is also gone. Mazda dealer is asking 350$ for OEM mount which seams crazy because if it was that good it would have lasted longer. I found KAVO for 120$ and would like your advice can I use KAVO or can you recommend some other aftermarket brand?

IMHO, even $120 is pretty high amount for a mount. If you are based out of USA, I would highly recommend buying it from your local AutoParts stores like Autozone & Oreilly. You will get it for half that price, and it does last very long time. On the plus, you also get lifetime warranty on the part, so if it ever fails again, you get free replacement. PS: Do make sure to take the top center bolt with you when visiting the store to make sure it fits. Otherwise, if you don't find the perfect fit for the part, Bolts are cheap buy from any Hardware store.

Hey, I have a 2004 Mazda 6, I replaced the passenger side mount, When I put the car into reverse the car vibrates and only in reverse it happens. It never did before putting the new mount, So I thought after replacing the other 2 mounts the vibration would go away, but it's still there. Any chance you ever came across that issue and fix for it? I keep thinking its the mount, even though it's new.

The chance of mount come shot right out of the box is a possible. I would say take it back to the store and get a replacement and see if that's fixes it. Also make sure the engine is aligned properly while replacing the mount, and bolts are properly tightened. You can check the old metal markings on the body around the bolt and stud area, align the same when tightening bolt with new mount.

Check with Autozone or Oreilly, they should be able to tell you if the same part fits both the car model/years.

oil is redish and will pool near the mount.. I replaced this mount a year and a half ago..Now I'm getting oil leak and it's bulging and it is resting like you showed..I just replaced the tranny mount maybe 7 months ago ,And the bottom mount I just replaced today.. it wasn't that bad but I replaced it anyway..And good thing I did because they were A little bit loose the bolts.....But I noticed while I was doing it I saw dripping and I traced it back up to the top engine mount ,, I could tell something wasn't right because I get a little more engine vibration in the car..Since I got all the engine Mounts at AutoZone they're guaranteed for life so I'm about to go over there and get a new one it's like $100 its covered atleast..Worth the extra few dollars because it's guaranteed for life if it fails again ,,I can get another replacement... maybe that loose bolt put more strain on this particular mount or it could've been the tranny mount that put alittle more stress on it .. I added a little Loctite to the bottom engine mount bolts just in case it decides to loosen up again and there's a new mount now

The mounts are hydraulic, so it has oil in it. And it will leak if the rubber part of the mount disintegrates with time.

Failed engine mount is common problems with most of the vehicles, and replacing it is pretty easy takes 30 mins. to 1 hr.

Just one motor mount, but there are two more mounts on driver side, transmission mount and torque strut mount.
