Jason was building a semi custom Tikka and came across a frustrating, yet common stock inlet problem. What is it? And what can he do?

Oh man! That’s not my intention at all! The factory stocks perform better than most people realize. My goal with this video is to help the guys doing DIY projects understand why their parts might not be going together the way they hoped and then be able to have an educated conversation with a gunsmith so they don’t get screwed.

Yeah! I’ve used a bunch of the carbon stocks in this video but their quality has gone down hill. I’m going to order a McMillan Mountain Trakker with carbon fill. Should be 2 oz. Lighter even with an integrated arca and pic.

Just purchased a krg echo chassis for my t3x lite in 7rem mag. I like it so far. Fairly light and definitely a sold stock. Gonna be selling the original roughtech Tikka stock on eBay.

Im greatful you just posted this. I just bought my first tikka t3x roughtech 308 yesterday and noticed this issue as well the front end of my magazine feels spongy. It does not feed the first round well and wont catch the following rounds. Was wondering what was wrong. I can see the front end of the magazine is not in full contact with action. The stock is certainly off spec. Thank you for your video. Nice to know its not a one off issue

Oh man that’s frustrating with a new rifle. Hopefully you’re able to diagnose the part of the stock that is out of spec. When you’re checking your stock, also check the recoil lug slot on the bottom of the action. The Cerakoted rifles have been having overspray issues. They may have sprayed it on too thick. It should be 2.4mm deep and 6.1mm wide.
@tikkamarksman
@tikkamarksman 2 ай бұрын
It's very important that the recoil slot is mated to the recoil lug . Check that the gas evacuation hole is flush with the stock . If it's any gap between the two the action is riding on the lug .

Here from nz good try i give you a B+ for effort 9 out of 10. Bush pigs are generally 16” barrel or shorter and the suppressors are over barrel not muzzle forward, look up dpt or hardy suppressors. Shorter out front and more efficient
@mountaintacticalcompany
@mountaintacticalcompany 2 ай бұрын
Haha!!! Fair enough! Going under 16” here causes all sorts of federal issues. You can’t take a “short barreled” rifle from state to state without asking for permission from that state first. It’s a bunch of bureaucratic BS. Reflex suppressors are awesome! But they are not the norm here. I wish they were because they would be better for hunters. Thank you for the B+ mate! Keep the advice coming!

@@LBZOverlander depending on the model, the grip is significantly slimmer. Personally, I’m not a fan, but that’s only because I have huge hands.

I screwed up my new t3x stock by misthreading the screw while installing the vertical grip. Do they sell the brass insert?

What exactly is a “spongy” magazine?
@COLINSDFC
@COLINSDFC 2 ай бұрын
Basically the magazine moves up and down if you apply pressure(which Jason demonstrated), which means the magazine probably won’t feed correctly. You should be able to push up on the magazine and feel very little movement. Spongy, squishy, a magazine that moves up and down when it shouldn’t essentially. A very common problem that has been addressed on this channel time and time again!
@mountaintacticalcompany
@mountaintacticalcompany 2 ай бұрын
Colin nailed it. The magazine doesn’t seat against the action like it should.

Thats what happens when you go around changing everything and putting aftermarket parts on a gun that was designed to work as is. Like people that change everything out on a Glock and then wonder why they jam and blame Glock....

Even better, B&C and AG both make glass replacements around 30oz for around 3-4 benjies. Carbon replacements up in the 5-7 benjamoney range as well around that 20oz range. That being said, I’ve got a bunch of spares from take-offs if you’re lookin for Tupperware.
