I think this is a great example of what happens when you over process. All those eq moves actually added artifacts and made the tone harsh and scratchy

Honestly think the "beginner" tone sounds better than the "advanced" tone when I listen to them side by side.

Super tight mix, i love it! What about the drum mixing? Is it the same as what you did on your previous drum mixing videos or is it totally new?
@MOMetalProductions6 ай бұрын
It's pre-mixed drums provided in the competition files. I've just done some eq moves on the stem 🙂
@delusionalbunny45772 ай бұрын
Is there a reason why you put 2 guitars track into one amp sim instead of seperating it to 2? I know it sounds very good of what you are doing but why didn't it run into a problem of too much input gain ? This is the issue I have been running into, too much input gain and ended up a very flat sounding fake tone.. Also is there a reason to use the similar guitar tone and cabs for all the guitars , instead of different tones for more richer frequencies? I have seen you other videos that you like to use the same amps and cabs for the stacks usually. Thank you so much for the videos! I definitely learnt alot! Love what you are doing!

Stereo mode on amps is the same as doing mono tones on L and R guitars! Using the same IR ties different guitars together a bit easier

Honestly me too. I had a really hard deadline for this mix so I leaned on what I know have worked before. Just goes to show that sometimes stripping back is waay better, I'm definitely guilty of falling into the plugin trap 😅

Have to admit, the beginner setting sounded a lot better to my ears than the advanced. Advanced was way too over produced sounding to me, but nowadays most people like that. Depends on what you really like honestly.

I also recently did a track for the Mike Stringer competition using this plugin. My mix sounds pretty good on KZbin but very "washed out" on Instagram if that makes any sense. Would be great if you can give an insight on why this happens.
@cevret6 ай бұрын
I guess its just instagram.. always messing up with audio. Best case is to upload via desktop web page, and thats what I did, thats the best case, no other way around unfortunately. (Mobile upload is even worse :) )
@MOMetalProductions6 ай бұрын
This. Instagram smears the transients a lot unfortunately... Like Cevret says for some reason audio quality is better (not by any means good) when uploading via the computer. IMO a bit of a shame to only have submissions accepted via Instagram because the intricacies of riffs are lost simply due to worse quality.
@ssmetalrulz6 ай бұрын
@@MOMetalProductions I know right?? I wish they made us submit KZbin links or something because it sounds straight up bad on Instagram ! Mine almost sounds like there's some phase issues going on. I also made the mistake of uploading directly from my phone instead of computer.
@midnightskyofficial5 ай бұрын
There’s actually a setting in Instagram that’s not enabled by default called “allow high quality uploads”. Make sure that’s turned on and it’ll sound a lot better. Still not great but it’s better

What’s the difference between widening and just sticking the guitars hard left and hard right?
@MOMetalProductions6 ай бұрын
The widener is using some phase sorcery to make it even wider sounding than if the guitars are just LR panned. Easily overcome though, it's best used subtly 🙂
@KingCharles-o6z6 ай бұрын
@@MOMetalProductions speaking of phasing. Do you use anything to lock the guitars perfectly into phase? Even with a perfect take, the frequency peaks won’t line up perfectly
@MOMetalProductions6 ай бұрын
@user-fw9gp8wg7f no, you don't want the guitars perfectly in phase. If you over edit LR guitars they can actually cancel out into a mono signal. It's the differences between the sides that create the wide sound.
@midnightskyofficial5 ай бұрын
@@KingCharles-o6zYou wouldn’t want them in phase if you want to widen them. You can actually get some very cool effects if you zoom in all the way in your DAW and move the audio track ever so slightly to the left/right. Kinda play around with it and you’ll get some cool results

@escapegulag43176 ай бұрын
thicker strings

I play stuff as low as an octave below drop A on a 25.5" six string by using a tuning pedal. The guitar is set to drop A and the strings are not much thicker than a normal gauge set.
