How to Dial Smaller Doses of Ozempic by Counting Clicks! For Healthcare professionals

Thank you. I did know about it from my endocrinologist when there was such a shortage I couldn’t get 1 mg pens. He prescribed a2mg pen and told me how many clicks to use to get my dose. Through that I discovered all pens were the same price, so I continue to use 2 mg pens for one mg dose to save money.

Oh Thank you so much Ive been trying this because at 2 mgs i throw up and get severly dehydrated and in the hospital..but i must say up to now the side effects have been barable to allow me to lose 40 lbs!!! yay. Im 68 and the only complaint at this point is my skin is very saggy all over my body. Can you make any positive guidance to work on this side effect. First of all, congratulations on losing 40 pounds! I’m glad that dialing down is working for you. Now, 2 important things: 1. Please talk to your doctor about your dose! I am assuming that you have talked to your doctor about dialing down your dose since you had such severe side effects. Your doctor may not be familiar with the fact that Ozempic 2mg pens have only 4 needle tips in the box. Please ask your doctor to prescribe the extra needle tips. Let the doctor know they can prescribe 4mm 32 gauge. It does increase risk for infection if you use the same needle tip. Also, the needle tip will become duller every time it is used. 2. Since you are losing so much weight, I am hoping you are also doing physical activity, especially weight bearing exercise. This is because it is actually dangerous to lose muscle mass at an older age. When we lose weight from calorie restriction, if we don’t use our muscles, then we lose both fat and muscle. You want to hold on to as much muscle as possible. It will also be beneficial for your bones! If you are already doing this -then great! I just want to make sure you know about it. Now about your actual question with sagging skin after weight loss: Unfortunately, this is a problem without easy solutions. After time, some people do see improvement, but not always. There is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin, if it is very severe and this is the only remedy that has been proven effective. Things that people say to use to firm skin (like creams, oral collagen, ultrasound treatments), have not been proven effective for sagging skin from extreme weight loss. I am hoping for you that maintaining muscle mass will help and prevent future sagging. If anyone is reading this and has had success using a sagging skin treatment, please add a comment! How many clicks on a 2 MG pen to get the 0.25? Is it even possible to achieve this dosage on such a high dose pen? Or even the 0.5 dosage? How many clicks then on said 2MG pen?

For an Ozempic pen that can dial a max dose of 2mg, it will be 9 clicks to get 0.25mg and 18 clicks to get 0.5mg. Since these are small doses on the largest pen, remember to inform the patient that the manufacturer recommends discarding the pen 8 weeks after the first dose. If you are the patient, then understand that with those small doses, the pen will still have medication in it after 8 weeks and make sure to check in with your doctor so your doctor can make dose adjustment assessments. Unfortunately, the remaining medication in the pen after 8 weeks will be wasted.

I believe you meant 0.3mg (vs 30mg)? I will answer for dialing 0.3mg. Now I want to make sure I understand which Ozempic pen: is it an Ozempic pen that dials a max dose of 2mg in USA (gold and white box) with a concentration of 8mg/3mL? If so, it would be 11 clicks on a 2mg Ozempic pen to get 0.3mg. However, since you mentioned the 0.25mg marking, you may be talking about the Ozempic pen that dials a max dose of 0.5mg and has a concentration of 2mg/3mL and comes in a red and white box in the USA. This is the pen that actually has a 0.25mg mark and also a 0.5mg mark on the dial. If so, then it would be about 43 clicks to get 0.3mg or 7 additional clicks after the 0.25mg marking. The following is important information: 1. Double check which Ozempic pen you have before dialing -it could give very different results 2. If you are the patient, make sure your doctor knows which dose you are using 3. Be aware that the manufacturer says to discard the pen 8 weeks after first use (in case it ends up lasting longer) Cheers!

Yes. If a patient has been instructed by their doctor to inject 1mg, it can be achieved by injecting 0.5mg from 2 different pens in the same sitting. The injections should not be in the exact same place.

Side effects are unpredictable and vary widely from person to person. Some people have severe side effects, and some people have none at all. Common ones are nausea, constipation and diarrhea. While you can experience these side effects at any time during the week, it is more common 1 to 3 days after your injection. It is also more likely to occur when you first move up on your dose. I’ve noticed that more people get side effects when they transition from 0.5mg to 1mg. Best of luck to you!

If you are referring to the Ozempic pen that dials max dose of 1mg, then there is a bit over 4mg of total medication in the pen. If the pen was dialed 18 clicks (about 0.25mg) for 3 injections, then only about 0.75mg was used out of the 4mg so it makes sense there is lots of medication left. Since the pen is being dialed such a small dose, I want you to be aware that the manufacturer says to discard the pen 8 weeks after first use.

The answer is yes. I will give you the click counts below. Please be aware of these important points: 1. It sounds like your doctor is fine with you trying micro dosing, but definitely make sure your doctor knows which dose you are using so you are both on the same page. 2. The manufacturer recommends discarding the pen 8 weeks after first use. If you micro dose, just keep track by writing the date on the box. 3. If you are using Ozempic for blood glucose control for Type 2 diabetes, then micro dosing could be too low to control your sugar and could be dangerous. Please make sure to check your glucose levels and use another medication to control glucose if needed. If you are using it for weight loss, then I do not see any danger in micro dosing. Here are the click counts if you are using the USA version of the Ozempic Starter Pen (Red label 0.68mg/ml) that dials a max dose of 0.5mg. The click counts below will be very close approximations to the mg dosing but are not exact: • 0.05mg (1/5 of the 0.25mg starter dose) is 7 clicks • 0.1mg is 14 clicks • 0.15mg is 22 clicks • 0.2mg is 30 clicks If you are using the USA version of the Ozempic Pen that dials a max dose of 1mg (Blue label 1.34mg/mL), the click counts will be half of the above: • 0.05mg is 4 clicks • 0.1mg is 7 clicks • 0.15mg is 11 clicks • 0.2mg is 15 clicks After completing the injection, do not immediately pull the needle out. Wait a couple of extra seconds. The doses are so small that if you get back leakage, you will lose significant amount of your dose. Best of luck to you!

HI, how about splitting the dose over week ? example if your using 0.25 once weekly which is 18 clicks why not do 9 clicks twice separate days for steady body use and less reactions ? even if you micro dose gives a better even constant flow ? anybody got thoughts on this

While it seems to make sense to split up the weekly dose evenly into 2 doses injected 3.5 days apart, at this time, we don’t have a published study to back this up. That said, there are lots of Reddit stories about people doing this. If you are a patient asking, then please check in with your doctor before switching to twice weekly. Your doctor will definitely need to prescribe more needle tips. I would love to hear about anyone’s experience (prescriber or patient) that has used twice weekly dosing.

The answer is 36 or 37 clicks. I’ve recently concluded that there is likely 74 clicks in the US pens. Either will be fine and will give approximately 1mg if you are using the gold and white box that dials max 2mg dose. IMPORTANT: talk to your doctor first because lowering your dose may cause your blood sugar to be less controlled if you are using it for diabetes.

It depends which pen the patient has: for the starter pen (0.25/0.5mg) it is 58 clicks. For the 1mg pen it’s 29 clicks. For the 2mg pen it’s 14 clicks.

Rybelsus is the tablet version of Ozempic. It is not quite as effective though, but contains the same ingredient, semaglutide. Since you had such a severe reaction to the smallest dose, 3mg, then likely it isn’t a good medicine for you. There are no studies about cutting the tablets in half. There are many other better tolerated medications for treating high glucose. Best of luck to you!

@@veena-usa As I understand, @sunitkewalkhanna1450 was not tolerating probably maximum semaglutide tablet dose of 14mg (as there is no 17mg dose that I am aware of). Tablets strengths are available in 3mg, 7mg, and 14mg. So if 14mg was too much, try 7mg. After some time and change of lifestyle (diet, physical activity) you could try again 14mg dose.

What about the 8mg pen? No one covers that in their videos or posts. (Gold pen). I heard the click counts are different. I followed the clicks for the lower volume pen my first two weeks and damn near overdosed. Vomiting and headaches for days.

I will answer this assuming you are referring to the Ozempic pen that contains 8mg of medication and has a max dose of 2mg (also referred to as the 2mg pen). The pen is blue with a gold and white label and comes in a gold and white box. This answer is for Ozempic pens available now in the USA. Technically, the pen has 74 clicks to reach 2mg. It has 72 clicks if you are starting from the flow symbol. Most clinic and doctor charts online use 72 clicks but only address the smaller pens. I now believe that all the pens actually have 74 clicks, but clinics seem to use 72 -probably because it makes the math easier, and the difference is insignificant. I tried to link the Ozempic 2mg pen "click chart" from the Ozempic Facebook group, but I was unable. You can access that chart on the Facebook group. If you had nausea from your previous dose, you need to discuss with your doctor about either reducing the dose or staying at that dose until the nausea goes away. How many clicks and which pen were you using before when you felt sick? Make sure you talk to your doctor about your side effects so they can guide you with the dose adjustment.

I see that now. I thought the mg referenced by the pen was based on capacity, not the dosage size. Yes, i have the gold label “2mg” pen. I was on it last year and stopped for no good reason, so I went back on it. My doctor wanted me to step up doses like before (.25 then .5, then .75 and ultimately up to 1mg spaced over several weeks). The issue I see now from your video is that 72 is the full dose based on the pen. The charts I saw were saying 18-19 clicks for the 0.25mg dose, so that’s what I did. But now I see that because I have the “2mg” gold pen, the 19 clicks I did was actually equally to starting out at 0.5 mg… twice the amount, and likely why I was vomiting for several days toward the start of each weeks dose…and with headaches. It was too high to start. The chart I needed should have been for the gold pen and stated only 9 clicks for the 0.25 dose. Today starts week four and I did 19 clicks again, so holding steady at the 0.5 now with no more nausea. Someone should make a chart which is color coded for each of the pens on what dose each click is for that pen. At least it’s in the past. And what a way to lose 14 pounds those first couple weeks, haha. At least my blood sugar is back down to about 100. Thanks for the tips!

I just want to confirm that we are talking about 0.05mg (vs 0.5mg). If it’s 0.05mg, then that is an incredibly small dose! Using the pen that injects 0.25mg / 0.5mg (red and white box), then it would be only 7 clicks to dial 0.05mg. That dose is so tiny that it may not do anything. If you are a patient asking this question, then please double check with your doctor to make sure you understood correctly to inject 0.05mg. Your doctor may have meant 0.5mg, so double check first!

@veena-usa yes 0.05mg. Dr Tyna Moore is a big advocate for microdosing semaglutide. She says to start with 1/5th of the staring dose. The reason people have so many side effects is bc it's too much. You can find her here on youtube talking about it. She was on an episode with Dr Mark Hyman. She said it's a miracle peptide!
