Here's another scratch tutorial on phrasing vocal samples!
This is a step-by-step approach to breaking down vocal samples and dicing syllables. Hopefully this will help you to understand better what techniques to use and how to apply them into your scratching when phrasing vocals. Once you get a hang of it, improvisation comes somewhat easily in my opinion.
Again, it's better to use an ultra-pitch sample at first for this kind of scratch phrasing to make it slow and easy.
Make sure to practice techniques like dices, slices, autobahn as they're the main components for this type of phrasing.
Also check out my 1st vocal phrasing scratch tutorial: • How to scratch and phr...
It can help as a 1st step to make this one easier.
Feel free to ask questions in the comments and I'll do my best to help out!
Hope y'all enjoy!

keep these vocal sample tutorials coming, these are fantastic and no one really talks about it that much. some tear and boomerang combos would be cool next.

Thanks for the feedback, it's encouraging and makes me want to keep going at it! It takes quite a lot of time to put these together so it's always nice to know that it's actually useful. I do have a few ideas for future vocal phrasing tutorials 😉I suck at tears, almost never use that technique, though I should work on it. I'll see if I can come up with something about boomerangs.

@@grameu dopez has some cool thoughts on tears that helped me but its a hand control thing called whips. Same sound but faster and tighter. Might be useful or not. But your tutorials have got me thinking about how to setup samples to scratch with as well as using them in different ways, so thanks a bunch.

@@SANDMAN_66 Dopez is the man! I learned whips from his videos and I do use them every now and then. They feel easier than tears for some reason and I like how they sound better. Combined with 1 or 2 click flares, they sound really tight!

@@grameu yea I have been trying to cut whips up as if they are og flares but it's tough to do fast. I have been trying to mix them into vocals but can't seem to figure it out. Qbert does this stuff with drumming and prisms that are similar. I want them so bad

Nice! LOADS of scratching tutorials on KZbin, something we old folk didn't have back in the late 80s/early 90s, and, home alone, with no help, I kinda gave up and sold my beloved 1210s as family, life, etc took precedence! Now own a set of STR8 150s, a Traktor S4 Mk2, Maschine Mikro Mk2, and ready to re-enter the scratch world. LOVE the slow-mo, the numbering of the words, and the straight to business approach. Plus, of course, your fine taste in decks!! Errrrrr, hell yeah I sub'd! 😁

Thank you! Finally getting the hang of this technique after watching several times. Sometimes it seems like you just have to take a break to get the feel of it first.

Well done! 🙌 It sure takes a lot of time and practice and you can't expect to do this overnight. I have been practicing this on and off, taking breaks just like you, coming back to the practice after some time and this is when I usually feel like I've improved. Keep practicing ✌

Cool man! Yeah this skill is crucial. Nothing sounds worse than when you try to scratch a vocal and it sounds off time and terrible. That dude Swiftstyle is really good with this I try to study his streams
