How to Dig out Weeds

The easiest way to get rid of big weeds is to simply dig them up with a shovel. This is chemical-free weed control and it's best. Yes, this is an old-fashioned way to get rid of weeds. But it works. The key to digging up weeds by hand with a shovel is to dig deep enough to remove the roots. If you don't remove the roots, the weeds can grow back.

You really helped me with one myth that I believed all of my life, in that if not all of the tap root is removed, the remaining root will just grow again, which is why I simply gave up on physically removing weeds thinking it's just a waste of time and energy!

the advantage of leaving the tap root in is the plant will grow again, bringing more nutrients up from below for you to compost.
