QUESTION: I have not connected my "smart" TV to the internet, so does that mean the mic is NOT a problem? Tx in advance. Also, wouldn't black electrical stop the mic picking up speech?

If you are using the remote to watch streaming video as in (via Amazon fire stick) then it is sending info to said device. Black electrical tape will only blunt the sound. Better to put wax earplug material over and into the hole which will muffle sound better.

For the benefit of others...Focus your attention on the circle/d-pad part of the remote...pry the outer circle off with a small flat screwdriver. Under the disc, there are 2 tiny Phillips screws which help hold the remote halves together. After removing the screws and some prying on the outer clips, the two halves will separate so you can access the board. That said, I couldn't figure out where the the mic was located. So I took the advice of the video and drilled. Sadly it didn't defeat the ear drum of Jeff Bozos. So I disassembled it again and placed several layers of tape over the hole in the circuit board and the hole in the case. That seems to have silenced the mic. The board was difficult to mate up with the plastic case, because of the battery connections thing was hard to feed through the tiny hole. But it wasn't impossible. For my next remote, I'm going to try pumping silicone in the hole.

Update...my remote was still listening despite several layers of tape over the hole. So I took the remote apart again. Once you get to the circuit board, there is a flimsy bit sticking up near the hole. My eyes aren't too good but it's the closest thing to the hole. So I bent that flimsy bit back and forth until it fell off and viola! No more listening.

Just bought mine and it has a different mic button...just wondering if maybe they updated it so that it would destroy the remote when this is done.

Horseshit it only listens when the button is pressed, i never once pressed it and it is still advertising things that come up in my wife and my conversations.
