How to Disable Flame Hulks, Devastators, and Tank Weakness Tips and Tricks Helldivers 2

This guide will show you the best strategy of how to deal with flame hulks rather than kill hulks! This can also be used to get the hulk achievement. We also show how to deal with devastators 10x easier! Especially heavy devastators with the ridiculous machine gun. And we even have a cool tip for tanks. I didnt know that you can shoot off the tracks of a tank. But I have a tip for you that wasn't mentioned in the video. If you take contact grenades, you can two shot tanks with them. Two grenades to the roof of the turret and the tank blows up. Also, you can shoot a Hulks leg armour of and throw a contact grenade against the foot to kill it. If you hit two contact grenades directly at the leg armour, you can get the armour off. The grenade against hulks is very unreliable though, because its hard to aim. But against the tanks is fairly easy to kill them.

Considering there is a spawn limit. It can be more advantageous to maim bots than outright Killing them. A bunch of hulks and tanks that can't even engage and are clogging up the paths for other bots is much better than dealing with constantly respawning heavies.

@thiccfila it's very strong on certain extraction locations like the bot forts or any evac area that has only one or two paths for the enemies to reach you. It can also buy valuable time when an eradicate goes south or during the civilian defense or generator defense missions. Hell if you find yourself in very mountainous terrain or some ice maps you can use this against them. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work though, because enemies will sometimes clip through each other or climb sheer cliffs to get around. It should really only be used when you are forced to be in one location for a multitude of reasons. If you are moving around the map killing them is almost always better than crippling them. (I'm sure you already know that this is mostly to help anyone else reading this.)

@chettonex yes there can only be so many of each heavy type at a time. It's high, but you can effectively neutralize them, locking the enemy out of their big guns. This really only works for bots and should only be done under specific circumstances. Hence why I said it CAN be not its always.

Some more tips on Heavy Devastators: -Their power packs are actually light armored, you can take them out with a primary if they have their backs turned to you, much to the relief of your teammate who was probably about to turned to swiss cheese. -The Autocannon can actually stagger them, this will lower their shields, leaving an opening to shoot their torso directly.

Lvl 60 Helldiver, I've never found a super reliable way to deal with hulks with a 90%+ success rate. Like how I think everyone has gotten very good at killing chargers by now. Getting shot by other bots while taking a split second to line up a shot on that tiny head of a hulk is just undeniably unreliable, no matter how good your quick flick accuracy is. I've never tried shooting the legs, excited to give this a try. Thanks for the content.

Having the autocannon, being able to 5-tap the leg while the thing is gassing up it's arm with murderous intent has been wonderful. You can usually rapidfire the AC if you're under pressure and 5 is the magic number for a half-reload too.

just use stun grenades. Hulk usually runs straight towards you. Stun it when it get close, then 2 taps the eye with autocannon or AMR easily.

Aiming for the legs is my favorite way to handle them. Just removing one leg cripples their movement, makes flamer hulks nigh harmless, as long as you don't run near them. When you're ready to kill them, it's easier to just shoot the other leg than it is to go for the face

if you havent found a reliable way to kill hulks by now, you dont fight them very much. 2 AMR shots to the eye, or 2 AC shots, or 1 eat to the eye or 2 to the body. Stun grenades make them a joke. Scorcher hulks especially.

I'm usually running for my life to even think of that. I have disabled the legs of Hulks though but never thought of the treads. I usually drop an orbital rail cannon on it and call it a day.

Yeah, I recall if the shot was fired at an angle it wouldn't one shot it, just disabled it. Also they acted as pseudo APCS since they could carry freakin melee cyborgs or the damn robot dogs....hate those dogs.

Can confirm. You can disable tanks in HD2 by hitting the tracks. Have done it on more than one occasion using Airstrikes.

Scorcher hulks losing one leg makes them nearly immobile, which most of the time is as good as dead. I always carry the quaso nowadays except in low difficulty for that reason. I noticed the sickle being able to take out the rocket devastator pods and they became much less scary, but I didn't notice the Heavy's MG being that soft. That's very useful info, thank you.

Love using the sickle on bots, can take out devastators with a couple headshots and whole small bot patrols before overheating. With the high rate of fire, infinite ammo, and the scope it makes it easy.

People miss the devastator mgs because what they are actually aiming for his the forearm slash bicep area.. and half of those shots are at such an angle that the shield actually catches it as they are running. I think the arm and the gun itself have different hp values.

The Marksman rifle (DMR) can also 2 shot both Devastator heads and the rocket pods - honestly DMR is really good against bots

I literally have no idea how people play bots without the AMR, with the quasar, you can take out one big target, but then you need to recharge and theres still SO many more coming for you, and at that point your essentially disarmed. I wouldn't was a quasar shot on a scout strider, but then how do I kill it without flanking the thing? It's gonna be with a lot of buddies so I can't possibly do that without being blasted... idk, guess it's not my playstyle

There is such a major difference between bots and bugs extermination missions (spoken from diff 8), with bugs they’re often a walk in the park even if titans can be real annoying, and while i havent failed a bot extermination mission in a long while they tend to be much more stressful lol

Best suggestion i can give when a hulk is chasing you, use stun grenades that stops them long enough to actually aim and kill them or not stress while you destroy the arms or legs, stun grenades are also great for groups of enemies that will allow you to call in an airstrike or something else to kill a whole group

Very much this. I never do bot missions now without stun grenades. Trivializes hulks, especially with AMR, disables large groups and even enables ez extracting in situations where the extraction is overrun. Grenade pistol or eruptor can take out the fabricators just fine. But ye, I have saved so many team mates with stun + AMR from hulks, which imo are way more scary than tanks. No need to worry about killing the team mates.

I usually just use the scope on the sickle to take out devastators. It takes about 3-4 headshots but it fires at 12 rpm, so a steady 1-2 seconds can easily kill one, especially in CQC.

If you hit centre mass just below the head on a Brood Commander you can relatively often kill them in one shot with the Eruptor, or at least blow off both of their front legs rendering them extremely slow and vulnerable to follow up shots. It seems to do much more damage than aiming directly for the head does, as the frags are often going to hit the head or legs as they spread out from the point of impact.

Been advocating for this for a while. People make guide videos for Automatons, and the first thing I do after watching is comment about shooting off limbs and weapons, if it wasn't mentioned. It usually isn't. These kind of tactics come naturally for me, but not for many other players it seems, so it's good to see someone bringing this to more people's attention. There are fates worse than death, especially for mechanical foes like the Automatons. Dead, you can be replaced. Critically damaged? You're worse than useless. You're not able to do your job *and* you're taking up space on the battlefield.

Against devastators I like the defender + ballistic shield combo. The recoil is so low that you can target the eye and kill them in close proximity in about two seconds even when they have the shield. (Laser pistol works well here too) Their waist is another good weak point if your weapon has too much recoil for the eye, but only if they don't have a shield.

Also for tanks, at least the larger one's (not sure about the Shredder Tanks) there are two plates you can fire at with an Auto Cannon enough times to also kill it. The plates are directly behind the tank. I have not tried a laser cannon on that spot, but an auto cannon will do it.

I think the devs would give the scythe and the las cannon a good niche by making them do +50% damage to limbs, so you could run round disabling enemies rather than killing. Cos right now they’re just low dps and not appealing to use

If you run the Eruptor, the Las Cannon is the best for it. I personally run that loadout with EMS Orbital Strike for hulks or sticky situations. It’s also the best support weapon for Gunships since you don’t have to rely on your Quasar cannon and your teammates to take out multiple gunships.

Stuns are probably still the "answer" to hulks, but those are still a resource, and not one you can easily loot from PoIs. Better to have the tools to deal with them based your resources than need to rely on aim under fire to avoid dying.

The default setup I landed on for automaton is similar to what you've been showing. Ballistic Shield+Defender, the revolver, AMR, stun grenades, and I just headshot everything. I know it's for the video, but I found it funny that you stunned these hulks to aim at the side parts when in that situation you could just quickly line up 2 AMR headshots.

I've found that the laser cannon can hit the eye of a hulk easily enough to kill it in short order. It's constant output makes the bobbing of a hulk moving less of a problem. Might consider using it more often

I learned by accident that I could bust the tank treads, started doing it to make taking them out easier when solo diving. I learned about breaking Hulk legs when I saw a video about the uses for the Quasar cannon. I've been breaking Devastator rocket pods because it was frequently easier to break those at range than to kill them with a primary.

I find that when using the eruptor against the bugs, if you hit them in the torso, the central explosion hits all of their limbs usually leading to a oneshot

very good video! and i will certainly be putting a fair few of these tips to use in my game, but. I usually operate as my squads anti-'special' enemy diver. And, I personally enjoy using EMS strike, shield backpack, and the Antimaterial rifle. the EMS strike group stuns enemies, and whilst everyone is frozen, I just shoot the eye of the hulks out because they are literally just standing there. A thing I noticed with shooting devastator arms off is that you have to make sure to go for the elbow joint area if you want it done quick. If you go for the shoulder you first shoot off the little plate of armor hat is wrapped around it and only then be dealing damage to rip the arm off completely

You said you weren't sure how useful this was against bugs but when using automatic type weapons like the sickle or mgs i find shooting the legs of specifically the brood commanders SUPER valuable! They are big targets and will completely stop their charge attack giving you some breathing room and can even have comparable kill times for stuff like the sickle!

Shooting the legs is only really useful on 2 termanids: the charger and brood commander. Everyone knows the charger leg stuff, however brood commanders are different. Shooting off 2 legs on the same side causes them to run in circles and become slower in general. Shooting 3 legs off instantly kills them. I believe it needs to be both front legs and a back leg though. This is nice because blowing off their heads soesnt kill them instantly and they still try to get one last charge on you before bleeding out. The other nice thing about this is their legs aren't armored, so all primaries can do this pretty easily and it doesn't take very long.

The plasma breaker not only stun locks devastators, it will completely ignore their shields and armor. It also can take it walkers from the front.

Some good tech to know for Shredder Tanks- you don't need to get at the rear of their turret. A deep angle on their turret ring (where the turret connects to the chassis) with the autocannon takes them down in around 4 shots. Knowing this really opens up how quickly you can respond to shredders, and presumably will work for other explosive weapons such as the grenade launcher.

Usually I try to kill enemies as fast as possible. But with hulks it's sometimes so hard to hit the spot. Especially when they still move around. So blowing their legs away seems a more efficient and reliable way for me. Thx for the vid!

Honestly I've tried a bunch of different setups vs bots, and the one I always come back to is Dominator + Grenade Launcher + Supply Pack. The Dominator takes out devastators of any kind in 3-5 shots and staggers them heavily with each hit. It also 1 shots all of the smaller bots, though the dudes with sword arms can be crazy hard to hit sometimes, they seem to have almost no actual hitbox outside of their chest. The grenade launcher can handle all of the weak point hits on hulks, tanks, and cannon towers, but is also a much better crowd control weapon than the autocannon or laser cannon or quasar. With supply pack, every time you're out of ammo you just take a supply box to get 2 full mags back, so you've got a grand total of 110 grenades and you can restock with a supply drop. I'm also running the grenade pistol with that setup now for even more explosive goodness =P

Instant sub! I always shoot the medium size bugs in the legs to slow them and to kill them. It works great when being rushed by tons of enemies to keep the onslaught off of you. Of course like you said not always best for every situation tho. Keeping it real idk I have done this with the bots 😂 🤦‍♂️ Appreciate the video!

Great tips about being able to use regular weapons to disable arms and other weapons. I've got over 100 hours in the game so far but assumed you needed bigger weapons to do anything to anything bigger than the standard bots.

Thank goodness! A Video that didn't spend its time doggin on my Laser Cannon, with "infinite" ammo and medium pen its more versatile than people give it credit for, someone in another comment section claimed it was trash because it dealt less damage than the sickle in the "GUNS WITH NO AMMO" category, but didn't care that medium armor pen changes the game one WHAT your shooting at, if you see the hulk coming spending a second to burn off a leg is nothing. And now that I know I can shoot tank treads... to keep the tank from moving...

For the devistayor you can shoot towards the eye which exposes the body due to stun. The you can aim at the chest/waist area to quickly finish them

For bugs, you can aim for the front two legs of the brood commander to easily (mostly) disable it. I'm pretty sure you can remove the hopping from the hunters by knocking their wings and/or back legs. You can also bully defenders by using medium pen to bust their from two shield legs.
