How To Disable The Suzuki DR 650 Sidestand Switch with 6IOD

An essential mod or farkle for the DR 650 is the disabling of the side stand switch. This little gem can stop the engine when the side stand is down and the bike goes in gear. Pretty safe unless you are on a rough trail and your side stand starts hitting the switch and cutting your power off!!! I take you through the process as a guy who knows nothing about wrenching. This is my first time too!!! This makes sure that nothing is left out.

Well done and nicely explained.I still need to do this to both my bikes. It just keeps getting pushed back. It is a very bad failure point 50 miles from nowhere.

I've been told that if you have the means, to solder the wires together and heat wrap them. That will be an even better solution than the clips I used. I had neither a solder iron or heat wrap! I just really didn't want to hit a hill climb with speed and have the kickstand dip and cut the power. That is the wrong time for things to go wrong!!!

Your video was good. It took about three or four videos to know where to go really. I didn't need to see you make the connections. Nobody simply twisted the wires together and kicked the start switch. That would tell you what you need to really know, in other words it starts. You might have shown that, the actual connections I mean. It was a little hard to see. I got it though. Incidentally, I have a Suzuki Intruder 800 from 1994. Of course, mine was just old and shorted. Don't cut the wires!! Get a small spade connector unplug the plug slip spade connector into male part of plug bridging the terminals, Tape it up

It stops the bike from moving if the kickstand is in gear by shutting off the engine. On an off road bike, if you hit a jump or large bump, and the kickstand moves, it shuts off your bike.

Funny thing, my Honda keeps runnings when I lower the kickstand or the centerstand (I hope that's the right word for it)

It's worth it if you ride hard. Even if you don't, I find nothing more annoying that trying to climb a steepish hill, hitting a bump and having your bike stall out for even a second.

Exactly! Mines in sumo trim so I do all kinds of antics with mine, and When trying stoppies it never fails to die out on me, or even heavy braking will do it.
